Yes, Biden should pick a Black woman, which is why I joined 100s of Black men who chose to stand with hundreds of women who have urged him to seize this historic opportunity and choose a Black woman as his running mate to fight for issues that matter to all Americans.

A black/white, male/female ticket in this moment of concentrated and overt racism and sexism can be a part of the unifying energy to help this nation face her brokenness and be healed.

But in addition to the face of the ticket, a transformative strategy towards a genuine democracy with equality for all also requires the focus of the ticket to address systemic racism, poverty, ecological devastation, health care for all, and the war economy head on.
We need the picture of transformation and the polices of transformation, the picture of a moral revival and the policies, the picture of a Third Reconstruction and the policies.
If both the face and focus--the identities and the issues--come together, this could be a transformative election, the likes of which America has never seen. It must be a both/and, not an either/or.
