Seattle Police Chief Carmen Best and Mayor Jenny Durkan are expected to speak at 11am. We will carry it live on #Q13FOX once it begins. I will tweet updates here.
Chief Best: "For me personally this was a decision I wrestled with, but it was time."
Chief Best: "To the men and women of the Seattle Police Department sworn and civilian, you will always have my respect, you will always be in my heart. You are without a doubt the best police department in the country."
Chief Best: "I have an ask of our community. I am one part of the department. If you support me, you support the department. I trust that everyone ... will find a way to work together to put aside personal conflict, political power plays, and grandstanding."
Seattle Mayor Jenny Durkan: "We're facing unprecedented challenges with no end in sight ... it has been a hard, hard year and today is a hard day."
Mayor Durkan: "Carmen Best has been one of those leaders who has shown up and shown what she's made of." Mayor Durkan says Chief Best told her "it was time to resign" this past weekend.
Mayor Durkan: "I freely admit, I wish she was staying."
The clear emotion Mayor Durkan has over Chief Best leaving is quite the moment. Chief Best was not the mayor's first choice. In fact, she didn't even make a top three list. But the community demanded she be chief - and Mayor Durkan listened. That was two years ago.
Mayor Durkan: "Make no mistake about it. Carmen Best was the right person to help re-imagine policing in this city."
Mayor Durkan: "It has been so mystifying to watch the City Council plow ahead without ever talking to her, consulting with her, or listening to her pleas to be thoughtful."

UH-OH: WA Senate Dems appear to have inadvertently sent their internal plans for new taxes out to ALL state senators. It includes talking points about how to paint the wealthy as “villains” and urges caucus members to “spread that tax policy love around”! Tons of news in here 🧵 Image
Image
Senate Dems not only want a wealth tax, but they are planning to propose making Seattle’s Jump Start tax statewide – and even have a version that would make it apply to ALL businesses, not just those with a payroll over $8M. This is insane stuff. 🧵 Image
Their three biggest internal plans for tax increases are:

-Tax on unrealized gains (wealth tax)
-B&O surcharge for large corporations
-Taxing high paying jobs (modeled off the Jump Start tax in Seattle, which led to Amazon moving 10,000+ jobs to Bellevue. Image

HOLY SH*T: Facing a massive, self-induced budget crisis, @GovInslee's last act leaving office is to propose a 4-year budget that creates $12.9B in new taxes and INCREASES SPENDING by $10.2B.Image
Image
Governor Inslee is backing the far-left proposal to tax wealth (unrealized gains) and a massive hike in the B&O tax. These proposals will decimate Washington's economy and, in turn, our budget for years to come. Image
Image
Some of the "investments" @GovInslee wants to make during what we're supposed to believe is a massive budget crisis include: $14M for legal aid for immigrants and $5.5M for World Cup security (because Democratic policies have made Seattle so unsafe). Image

A major political scandal brewing in Washington state. The head of our elections, a Democrat, says the leading Democrat in the race for governor, AG Bob Ferguson, directed him to violate the law: "I was surprised he was asking me to do something that I clearly cannot do."
Not only did Ferguson make this request during a press conference, but his attorney put it in writing. Here is the pertinent portion of a May 13 letter to Hobbs. Hobbs told the @WAStateStandard today that a "first year law student" would have known this was against the law.
Image
Image
While Hobbs is supporting moderate Democrat @electmullet in the race, he told the Standard that has no bearing on what the law allows him to do. Even more puzzling, Ferguson is suggesting Hobbs – who literally runs the election system – simply doesn’t understand election law.

🧵Anti-Jewish animus strikes again. This morning just after midnight, the State House was set to vote on a bill that would improve Holocaust education in public schools. The bill had already passed unanimously out of committee, so no big deal. Right? RIGHT?
Except Rep. Emily Alvarado (D) dropped an amendment out of nowhere that R's weren't prepared to debate on (very out of line with procedure). The amendment is an exercise in Holocaust whataboutism:

The amendment argues the state must also "meaningfully" teach about other communities that "have lived experiences of surviving, being made refugee by, or otherwise being directly impacted by genocide."

HAPPENING NOW: This woman just crossed out a page of voter signatures at the Issaquah Costco, which is a gross misdemeanor. This comes amid Democrat-backed effort to harass and intimidate Let’s Go WA signature gatherers (black marks mine to protect voter info).🧵
Image
Image
The signature gatherer tells me he chased the woman as she ran inside and hid behind a Costco employee. He admits that he shouted at her. Costco called Issaquah police … on the signature gatherers. 🧵
Image
Image
The signature gatherers decided to pack up and leave. @IssaquahPolice spoke to them briefly (could not hear conversation). Not clear whether Costco will help police identify the woman who crossed out signatures. 🧵

🧵If you need evidence of how truly insane government can be, look no further than this story from @seanrobinson1e4 of the @thenewstribune. Allow me to vent for a moment about some of the details ... thenewstribune.com/news/local/art…
The state of Washington knowingly hired Mark James, a 22-time felon, to work with vulnerable patients at Western State Hospital. "Well," you might argue, "everyone deserves a second chance!" And I agree - however ...
As @seanrobinson1e4 reported, James was hired just 13 DAYS after being booked on a fugitive warrant and 6 DAYS after being booked on new felony charges. And not only that...
