This is your "Summer Before an Election" reminder:

There are a lot - and I mean A LOT - of various organizations based out of DC that have "veteran" in their title claiming to represent or support "vets."

If you have not heard of many before, you're not alone. These are just/1
...shell organizations that are holding pens, stalking horses, or more likely, marketing ventures for people desperate to get in politics who happen to have once served.

Before you read their stuff or sign their petitions, go to their websites. Check out their "about" section/2
...See who is on their board. There you will, once you scratch a bit, start to recognize a few characters. They've been playing the political game for awhile. Then look at their publications and shortly you'll see they are just another partisan grift or self-marketing tool for /3
...people looking for a shortcut to power or desire to market themselves for a political appointment.

I'll never begrudge someone from earning a living, but I just wish they would be upfront about it. They may be fooling some people, but not as much as they think.

At least /4
...to me it is a tired and worn game; transparent, patronizing, and a bit lazy ... but that is just me.

I'm not sure it signals the message those people think it does.

One thing it is good for is pointing out who is who in the intellectual zoo and act accordingly.

Hey /5
...I do opinion stuff all the time, as do a lot of other people who once wore the uniform - but at least we are putting it out as that - opinion - not trying to wrap ourselves in the flag, a bloody shirt, or pretending it is for some lofty cause.

Anyway - be skeptical folks. BT
