While I can't independently confirm all of this, the details of this story are highly consistent with a message I got in late April from an anonymous email account with the address "creepyalexmorse@protonmail.com" trying to get me to write about vague, unspecified accusations
The message had a list of students involved in UMass Amherst Dems students and their email addresses, saying those people could confirm Morse's vague, unspecified improper behavior, and then said I should go to one of the org's leaders once I "had something on the record"
I just looked back at the email itself, and yep, two of the names on the list of people who I was told had dirt on Morse were the names of the two people The Intercept identified as spearheading this plan and trying to get Politico to publish a story too theintercept.com/2020/08/12/ale…
Now I'm thinking there's a pretty high probability those two were behind it or somehow involved, given what The Intercept has reported. There are some times in life where you just have a gut instinct about something, and I was glad my gut pointed me in the right direction here
For context — these people's names who are identified in The Intercept story of hatching this plan were two out of three names *total* provided of people who supposedly had screenshots and dirt. It wasn't a long, extensive list.
It is unclear what role these two individuals had in drafting the letter and it's possible that there are students who were made uncomfortable by Morse. All I can confirm is that when allegations were pitched to me, those 2 were out of the 3 names listed as corroborating sources
I also want to be as clear as possible that I'm not trying to minimize/dismiss anyone who was made at all uncomfortable or who has had a bad experience. I just wanted to add more context to The Intercept's reporting about what was pitched to reporters and who was associated w/ it
