Three years after Hurricane Harvey, it’s past time Texas elects leaders who will take climate change seriously - and create good-paying jobs while doing it. Luckily, 10 of the worst climate voters in the Texas House are running in flippable districts. (Thread)
Climate offender no. 1️⃣: Matt Shaheen (HD 66, Collin County). While in office, Matt has placed clean energy job growth on the back burner. Instead of focusing on jobs, he’s made it much harder for local communities to take on illegal polluters.
We can flip this seat. Challenger @Sharon4TX wants to diversify the renewable energy mix in TX. HD-66 already has 1000+ clean energy jobs -- let’s elect a leader that will keep that number growing. Help elect Sharon: secure.actblue.com/donate/sharon-…
Climate offender no. 2️⃣: Jeff Leach (HD 67, Collin County). Jeff made the @TexasMonthly list of “Worst Legislators” in 2019. He consistently votes against clean energy and clean air.
Climate candidate to support: @LorenzoForTexas. Sanchez wants to lower energy costs and ensure that Texas remains a dominant energy state. Support Lorenzo here: secure.actblue.com/donate/lorenzo…
Climate offender 3️⃣: Tony Tinderholt (HD 94, Tarrant County). Founding member of the TX Freedom Caucus & one of the most extreme science deniers. He even voted against new safety reqt’s after a deadly fertilizer plant explosion in West TX. His @EnvironmentTex score is 11%
Let’s vote Tony out and @alisafortexas in. Alisa Simmons believes in energy efficiency, business development, and sustainable choices to improve the health and welfare of Texans. Support Alisa now: secure.actblue.com/donate/climate…
Climate offender 4️⃣: Matt Krause (HD 93, Tarrant County). Matt can’t seem to stop voting AGAINST clean energy jobs, and FOR measures that prevent local communities from implementing their own solutions. His @TexasSierraClub score is 14%
We need @LydiaBeanTexas instead. Lydia has helped organize communities of faith around a variety of justice issues, including climate change. Help Lydia win: secure.actblue.com/donate/lbclima…
Climate offender 5️⃣: Craig Goldman (HD 97, Tarrant County). Like the others, Craig has voted against wind energy jobs, voted to strip TX’s ability to regulate carbon pollution, and made it harder for local communities to take on polluters. His @TexasSierraClub record is 19%
In HD 97, $6M have been invested in wind & solar. Challenger @elizabethforTX has a background in environment & transportation planning and can help tap the potential of this growing industry. Support Elizabeth Beck: secure.actblue.com/donate/climate…
Climate offender 6️⃣: Morgan Meyer (HD 108, Dallas County). We need to keep Texans safe from extreme weather, but Meyer has voted against oil & gas hurricane safety reqt’s, and against even studying how climate change is affecting Texans. That just won’t do.
Support @JoannaCattanach. Joanna Cattanach will hold polluters accountable for contaminating Texas’s water, land, and air, and ensure that local communities’ environmental concerns are heard - not overridden. secure.actblue.com/donate/joannac…
Climate offender 7️⃣: Angie Chen Button (HD 112, Dallas County). Button consistently votes to keep science out of government decision-making. She also voted against wind energy (huge job creator) & voted to strip TX’s ability to regulate carbon pollution.
Time for new leadership. @BrandyforTexas wants to make Texas a leader in the renewable energy economy, and has a plan to do it. Help Brandy Chambers win: secure.actblue.com/donate/bkc-cli…
Climate offender 8️⃣: Sarah Davis (HD 134, Harris County). Sarah’s district is one of the most flooded in the state - yet she keeps voting to keep the science out of government decisions.
On the other hand, challenger @VoteAnnJohnson will support investments in renewable energy & flood mitigation projects, which will diversify the economy and get Texans back to work. Support solutions, support Ann: secure.actblue.com/donate/climate…
Offender 9️⃣: Lynn Stucky (HD 64). Denton County citizens have fought to reduce local air & water pollution, ban fracking, and more. Since taking office, Stucky has played a key role in reversing the progress made by his own constituents.
Climate candidate to support: @angelafortexas. Angela Brewer will stand up for the people fighting to reduce pollution in Denton County. Support her now: secure.actblue.com/donate/angela-…
And last but not least, climate offender 1️⃣0️⃣: John Raney (HD 14, Brazos County). Raney has taken anti-science votes out of step with HD14’s own Texas A&M. It should be common sense to use best-available science to prepare for droughts, hurricanes, and floods.
Raney’s challenger @Janet4Texas is a Katrina survivor - so she’s seen the stakes of disaster-preparedness firsthand. Janet wants to tackle climate change in TX and create good jobs while doing it. Donate here: secure.actblue.com/donate/janetfo…
Texas should be a leader in the clean energy revolution. We can kickstart our economy & protect our health with clean energy jobs. Join me in helping these challengers bring it on. For the full roundup in more detail, see medium.com/@BetoORourke/a…
We need your help to win! To donate to all these game-changing climate candidates at once: secure.actblue.com/donate/tx_clim… — And big shoutout to @Climate_AF for the analysis, and @EnvironmentTex and @TexasSierraClub for the environmental voting scorecards! #Climate2020 #Texas10
