The city in which Miyazaki's "Howl's Moving Castle" (2004) takes place is loosely based on Colmar and Riquewihr in Alsace, France. There is no reason this human scaled riverside square can not be replicated in a real life urban development. It would be an instant hit.
The city of Koriko in "Kiki's Delivery Service" (1989) is loosely based on Stockholm and Visby. The topography makes it a little tricky to replicate on flat land but still... The blueprints of every single real building used as inspiration can be found in Swedish city archives.
Real estate in Colmar and Visby are very highly sought after and they can hardly be said to be "excellently located" in either France or Sweden. Build something like this and you have a certain hit.
