If you don't know whether someone prefers the Democrats or Republicans but you know they would prefer to vote independent or third-party, would you rather they vote for whichever big party nominee they prefer, or would you rather they vote for whoever they really want?
Please read carefully: Which of these would you be most against someone doing, if you know absolutely nothing about their voting preferences. Would you rather they not for whichever big party nominee they prefer, not vote for whoever they really want, or not abstain from voting?
I wonder if I should have put "NOT" in all caps, for emphasis. There wasn't room to add the word "NOT" directly in each of the answers, and even if I had and also put it in the question that would have just made it a double negative. I hope I worded the question obviously enough.
My answer is that I would most prefer they not abstain from voting. Even if someone plans on voting for the candidate I think is the worst choice, and even if they are planning on casting a dishonest vote to game the system, it's their vote and "NOT VOTING" is throwing it away.
That's the thing about democracy. If we want it to work, we have to let everyone have a voice. Not just the people we agree with. I have worked hard for many years to end the silencing of voters who want more than anything else just to vote DIRECTLY AGAINST a candidate. #BRIRES
