When this encounter first happened to me I was totally unaware of my hindu caste, and my parents only told me "We are Buddhists and that's all. Don't tell anyone unless asked. Try to keep your mouth shut all the time before strangers."

So I was standing there in the class and looking down to my feet, completely confused. Experiencing my first ever public humiliation. Then suddenly my teacher's voice echoed in the class. He - "OK you fool, tonight you will ask your parents about your caste and tomorrow you
will tell me your caste in the class. Is that clear ?" Me - "Yes Sir, I will do that." I don't know why but I didn't cried that day. After the school I went to home and asked my parents about my caste.
They - "who is asking it to you ?"
They - "who is asking it to you ?"
Me - "My class teacher." They " Ok tell him that we were 'Mahar' but now we are Buddhists. " They made no big deal of the incident because they thought my class teacher was asking me privately. And I was also terrified inside by my first encounter with my caste.
So I did not told them the whole incident. Next day I told my teacher in class "Sir my caste is 'Mahar' and we are Buddhists now." Then also there was a laughter in the class And I was so innocent at that time I also laughed with them unaware of the meaning of my just spoken
sentence. My teacher then " Hmm ok then. Do one thing you ask your father to come down tomorrow at school and meet me personally. Ok clear ?" Me "Yes sir. Will do it." Next day my father came to school and discussed the matter with my class teacher.
I don't know what discussion happened but after that he didn't asked me the same question for months. I was some 9 yrs old that time and may be 3rd or 4th standard at school. This public humiliation didn't stop there.
The question was asked to me throughout my school and college life and till now they ask
"What is your caste ? Which caste you belongs to ?"
