As I have said severally, Kenyans should be afraid whenever politicians come together for the sake of "national unity". Inevitably, such "handshakes" raise the curtain on the eating season. And Kenyans are always the main course.
More than anything else, it is crucial to remember that despite driving a third of the country to starvation and killing an undetermined number in the process, no one has ever been held to account for the #MaizeScam. That fact is the source of much comfort to #Covid19Millionares.
So when you hear GoK beating its chest about a war on corruption and prosecutions, you should take the long view. When we ignore the corruption of the past and give virtual amnesties to folks who profited from our pain, we give license to new corruption and new pain.
History teaches us that following the #Covid19Millionaires revelations, some will claim that this is just a few people abusing a well-intentioned GoK program. But we must ask ourselves what in 2008 PwC called "the big picture question": Was it all designed to fail from the start?
