You have inspired me to tell a mom story @iamsurfe.
Twitter, I present a mom story.
Have you ever seen the movie The #Misfits?#MarilynMonroe's last film. Part was filmed at Harrahs in Reno. The employees were used as extras and had to work as they filmed. My mom dealt 21 on their big money table. My mom has a great story... (more)
The film, starred #MarilynMonroe, #MontgomeryClift and #ClarkGable. My mom did not want to be in the movie. The lights were hot, the make up was gross and they had to do the same things over and over again as they retook each shot. My mom says Marilyn was struggling... (more)
Mom says #MarilynMonroe was often late, didn't know her lines, & had to do multiple retakes over & over again. Then her make up would run or sweat would show on her dress, and they would break to change/make up. My mom hated it. (more)
As all my mom's friends were thrilled to be in a movie with Marilyn, my mom hates standing around. She said Marilyn was the most beautiful woman she has ever seen, but everyone had to stop and wait and stop and wait-So my mom would slither down under her table... (more)
She'd crawl her way behind the lights where she could hide behind a bank of slot machines. This is how my mom watched the filming-hidden away, peeking between the slot machines. Then one day a gravelly voice whispered in her ear, "What are you doing?" She just about died.
It was #ClarkGable. He was squatting down behind the slot machines peeking out to see what she was looking at. My mom explained why she was hiding, he said he understood and asked to sit awhile. They chatted, and after that he hid out with her when he could sneak away. (more)
My mom is funny-she & #ClarkGable joked and had a nice talk. My mom asked him what is was like to kiss someone as beautiful as #MarilynMonroe. He said, "I don't know-I haven't done it yet. I'll let you know."
A few days later her boss ordered her to go to his hotel room.(more)
My mom was upset but she walked to #ClarkGable's hotel room to tell him she was a mom & very upset to be ordered by her boss. Clark's wife opened the door in a dinner gown, Clark popped up-said he'd requested her to babysit while they went out to dinner. (more)
My poor mom was so relieved. She thought she'd stand up to him, he'd be mad, he'd complain, she'd be fired.
Instead, that's the night my mom taught #ClarkGable's kids how to play black jack.
I hope you enjoyed tonight's tale of my mother.

Something really wonderful happened today. One of those moments that just shows you you are doing things right.
I was at the hospital (I got kneed in the head today and have my second concussion in as many months) and while in the pharmacy...
I overheard a woman say she would have to skip one of her prescriptions because she couldn't afford it. She sat down across from me and I just couldn't stand it.
I walked over and asked her how much it was-I could afford it so I told her I would pay.
She started crying.
She went and told the pharmacist so I followed and asked them to do 120 days (they could only do 90). They had to figure it all out before I could pay so the woman and I sat together and talked.
She had this lovely energy and told me she works as violence counselor.

SO, I shared my Romper Room picture and people were asking questions... and the truth is, I have a few very vivid memories, I remember what it was like at school being that kid who was on TV, but the nuts and bolts of it all- like I said, I was little at the time.
I read up on the show and discovered a few things... and one of those things, as you will see, completely horrifies me.
The kids on the show changed out every two weeks-I was a substitute kid and now it makes more sense why I was on that much-if a kid didn't work out...
But here is the humiliating part...LOL.
That was normal childhood to me. Every kid got to keep their Romper Stompers and the puppets, I had tons of them. I slept with puppets. I did all the Romper Room stuff as routine.
Then I read about the Romper Room Prayer...

I'm kind of doing two things:
Setting up a permanent display at school-just one tooth (or more) would be cool!!
I'm also dividing up my own collection, taking donations to make mineral sample collections for my kids-for that I need 7. (that's a lot of teeth!)
I don't mind sharing more details! I work in a special school where the kids come for evaluation-and to chill out for a bit-with the goal being returning to the regular school system. They miss out on a lot of those special things bigger schools have. (more)
But they have these cool interior windows that can easily become a display case, behind unbreakable glass! They are low and super perfect to create a really rich display area for our kids to visit. I have permission to take one over, put in acrylic shelves (more)
I love my Christmas ornaments. Some are Victorian. Some are from my parent's first tree together in 1959. Some mean a lot. Many are from estate sales.
Mike bought me this German snake circa 1900.
In 1960 my parents bought a box of Shiny Brite satellite-shaped ornaments. They have been my favorite ornaments my entire life.
This year Mike picked one up and asked about it. I told him the whole story. He promptly broke it.
He felt TERRIBLE and I kept telling him it was OK. They ae fragile. I told him the story of my friend Carol (whose mom turns 100 Jan 7! Want to send her a card?) whose giant German Shepherd took out a tree of 100 year old + Victorian ornaments.
My friend went to visit her family & called me breathlessly in the middle of the night!
Beth: OH MY GOSH I HAD THE SCARIEST DREAM! I WOKE UP SCREAMING!!
Me: What was it?!
Beth: I was driving the Buick Riviera down a country road...
Beth: It's dark-I can't see-up ahead there is something in the road-I'm going too fast to stop-I'm getting really scared and suddenly-just as I am about to run over it-(She starts getting loud, she is scared and unnerved!!) IT STANDS UP!! (She screams-totally freaking out)
OH MY GOD!!! I think!!! What horrible terrible thing did my friend see in this nightmare that has her calling me up in near hysterics!!?!!
My mother, with her broken foot, showed up tonight with two big boxes of food. Instead of resting her foot, she baked a turkey, made dressing, veggies, mashed potatoes, gravy, jello w/ pears like when I was a kid, a tub of my favorite olives, a can of cranberry (more)
De-canned and in her GOOD TUPPERWARE, no less. Also a can of whipped cream a pumpkin pie for my best friend James, who rents our first floor, and a cheese cake for Mike. An entire cheesecake. "I brought you half a turkey, I hope that's enough." (more)
Me: You didn't have to do so much work!
Mom: I realized yesterday I was the only one in my family who was alone.
Me: We were going to see you, you just weren't going to cook!
Mom: Enjoy your dinner!
Me: (bringing out her box) Here is a ham, a bottle of wine (more)
