There is a missing primitive - which is to reference a part of a whole without changing the whole.
Extract is useful when you want to take a compound statement - split it into parts, and then be able to ref those

@cortexfutura If you're discussing a quote - you don't want to do an extraction at all
You should alt drag to another place (could be below- but probably not, since you're discussing in different content)
Then replace with text+alias to get the thing you're hoping for -- and delete from that

@cortexfutura Try that - alt-drag a block to right below it - replace with text and alias - and delete everything but the quote you want -- will give you exactly the thing you're asking for

@cortexfutura On other side - without extract block-below - you'd have to do a TON of extra work to create local variables on the fly.

@cortexfutura Extract block below never really designed for dealing with quotes though. it's for live writing of structured thought
