🧵1/ I've been asked a lot recently why I have been tweeting less about politics and more about food on this here bird app.

Here's the scoop.

On 1/13/21, my husband was diagnosed with AML. He suffered a heart attack during the first day of his admission.
Brrr! It's fall for real now. It's muddy and rainy in Seattle, and I have never been so happy to have....a new oven!

I loved my "old" oven, (purchased in 2020, ffs) but it crapped out on me. I baked 10-14 dozen cookies a day for 4 years, so...
This new oven has no knobs or buttons. It has a touchscreen interface and runs by AI. I just asked it to show me some chicken pot pie recipes. I can turn it off from my phone. Oh, and it bakes cookies at the perfect temp without me having to guess about the temp.

1/ My husband is officially 6 months cancer free, according to last week's bone marrow biopsy.

He had a stem cell transplant for AML last June.

The day he was diagnosed, his white count was 135k. (Normal is between 4k-11k.)
2/He went into respiratory failure, had a heart attack, was put on life support, and as he crashed, I was told his prospects were "not good" by his doctor.

I was told over the phone, because COVID was in full swing on 1/13/21, the day he got sick.

I could not be with him.
3/ To everyone's shock and delight, he woke up 3 days later.

He was in the hospital for 3 weeks, getting his first round of chemo, scared and alone. I was not allowed to be there. Because of COVID.

This was when vaccinations were mostly for people who worked in healthcare.
