Riquewihr is the textbook example of a "compact" development/city with long views into nature.
Jakriborg in Sweden is an actual (super rare) compact suburb/development that can (and probably will turn) into a town in the future.

In Korea, Naganeupseong Folk Village is a good example of a walled village that does a good job of providing compact with long views (if you climb the wall. Extremely cozy. Walled villages bring the best of both worlds. Image
Maybe the ultimate in compact development with long views, largely self sustainable, is the medieval monastery. Especially the Carthusian ones. A good model for institutions, regional hospitals, resorts, even shopping centers.
