NEWS: A postal employee provides NBC News with exclusive images of dismantled mail sorting machines in a Dallas facility. Workers attempted to repair and reinstall them but found critical parts were trashed.

These bar code sorters process letter mail, including ballots.

Yared Wonde, president of the Dallas postal workers union, tells us the sorting machines were in working condition at the time of their removal in July and that workers have “been told not to put it back in operation.” He says they will likely be sold for scrap metal.
At Monday’s #USPSHearing, Rep. @DWStweets asked DeJoy if he would authorize postal plant managers to turn sorting machines back on if local officials deemed it necessary.
 
Rep. DWS: “Those things are decided locally. Will you let them decide that locally?”
 
DeJoy: “No.”

NEWS: I got a tip that someone in town for Robert Trump's White House funeral punched a server tonight at D.C.'s Fig & Olive restaurant. I called and an employee there confirmed it: "Somebody blindsided one of my servers. Clocked him right in the nose."
I'm told some in the group were still carrying funeral programs. The "unruly" group lashed out when the restaurant couldn't accommodate their large party. Employee: "It’s a pandemic, doing the best we can. Totally uncalled for." Employee says no "high-profile" Trump was involved.
The employee says he believes the server's nose is broken.
I asked if police were involved. Employee says they have security at City Center and he thought they were handling it with DC police. But neither security nor police did anything.

Louis DeJoy told Sen. @GaryPeters today that he has not cut postal workers' overtime.

But this internal #USPS talking points document I obtained show how his policy changes have the same effect: prohibiting "extra"or "late" trips and mandating that carriers "return on time."
The #USPS document was internally circulated in July with the heading: "Pivoting for our Future"
Here's a variation of DeJoy's #USPS talking points as distributed to workers in the Appalachian District:

"Managing costs is critical to our organization and this includes matching workhours to the workload.”
