Edo2020: International Film Village Coming for Edo
Arts and culture in Edo is a catalyst that should be exploited by the government to stimulate the tourism, hospitality, transport and entertainment sectors of the economy in a manner that can create jobs for the youths.
Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, the APC candidate in the September 19,2020 Edo governorship election stated this in Benin City on Monday in an interview with AgbakaMedia.
He said Arts and culture, tourism is a critical aspect of his manifesto, the Simple Agenda,..
which is explained under the Manpower Development and training segment.
The Frontline Edo governorship candidate said global appreciation of Nigeria today is because of Nollywood, which through various films portray the Nigeria's rich cultural heritage evident in royalty,...
fashion, morals, food to a global audience.
"The good thing about about Arts and Culture is that it opens up the tourism, hospitality and transport sectors. It is something that government should be interested in. Government must appreciate the role of culture in the ...
upliftment of our state".
According to the governorship candidate, "every state should understand what our people are good at and when it comes to tradition dancing, songs, Drama, Edo has been at the forefront. I grew up seeing Edo as the state of culture".
He said in the past Foreigners use to take pleasure in visiting the state by virtue of her rich culture and traditions and were thrilled to watch drama and cultural troupes perform at Urhokpota but not anymore.
"I do not see why Edo cannot invest in a film village.
I believe that we have the talents, the traditional setting, that are attractive as film sites and the state is centrally located enough to bring artistes from far and near. So if we have a film village we are actually creating room for prosperity and discovery of new talents".
Ize-Iyamu said, "Even if the government cannot do it alone it can partner with those who can do it. That's where the Public-Private-Partnership Scheme comes in. I believe it will be good for our state; it will restore our glory and bring back our pride".
He promised that if elected as governor in September his government would also look at the prospect of establishing an International Film Village in the State.
