So its 5:45 am and I am taking a break from packing and watching Zayne devour milk. I’ve decided to just briefly speak about who I am voting for primary day September 1st, and whom I’d vote for if I lived in their district. #Mapoli #MaSenate THREAD
I also want to note, as you head to the mailbox or ballot box consider not voting for any incumbents you've never seen or you don't care much for who are running unopposed. A nonvote or a write in is fine. An actual vote shows support. Make them earn it. Especially local.
I will start from the top of highest offices up for a vote and to then go into a few other races that I’ve been following.
Senate: @EdMarkey

I am hopeful Markey retains and we see in 6 years a clear open race highlighting the depth of Massachusetts politics.
The Incumbent has made the case for re-election, while his opponent @joekennedy has yet to really hone in on a solid case as to why he should be our next Senator. That is politics 101. Hell that’s any form of persuasion 101.
Congress MA-7 @AyannaPressley
Though she is running unopposed, she deserves a vote & to be highlighted for becoming in less than 2 years a household name. Its inspiring to see a woman from my dad’s hometown of Chicago rise to become one of the greatest Boston leaders of our time
State Senate: @WBrownsberger
This guy is a charismatic nerd, and I hope to mimic him as I progress. I’ve seen him over the years have amazing dialogues with audiences in Roxbury discussing Criminal Justice Reform to folks in Oak Square detailing the future of the MBTA.
He makes his own databases, sends well developed surveys, and is always willing to engage. Though running unopposed he deserves a vote.
State Representative (Suffolk 17th Allston-Brighton): @JordanForMA This is the big race of Allston-Brighton this year. Jordan is extremely charismatic has garnered tons of grassroots support from community members and numerous organizations.
It also takes a lot of strength to go against a beloved incumbent of 34 years. I like Kevin Honan a lot and I fully understand his die hard support from folks in the neighborhood. However, I believe Jordan has put together a campaign that has shifted dialogue around the district
Governors Council: Helina Fontes
Fontes has put in some major work, and offered a lenses on an often overlooked position. Her support for criminal justice reform is also a huge strength to me. I also couldn't find a website for the incumbent which is a hugeeeee red flag.
Now onto races around the state:
Congress MA-01: @AlexBMorse
Through all the bs from the last couple weeks, his campaign has drudged forward. There is absolutely no reason for anyone to support Richard Neal for anything at this point. Easy vote.
Congress MA-04: Anybody but Jake
This race is absolutely terrible in so many ways. My issue is that there are so decent folks in the race. There is also one extremely fake moderate whom was a republican a hot second ago. I would be okayish with anyone but Jake.
I am leaning towards Jesse Mermell but when I say leaning, I mean an ambivalent glance between her and 2-3 other of the more progressive candidates. Recent polling showed the race to be almost 50% undecided so no one knows how this will end.
State Rep (27 Middlesex/Somerville)- @erika4rep
This is Naj’s home district so I am invested in this race for personal reasons. I am behind Erika 100% and I am hopeful the folks of this sliver of Somerville are as well!
Erika is an amazing advocate and someone who I believe will bring a lot of energy and progressive values to a place, where energy and progressive values are sent to a cold dark basement. She will for sure be in the basement for a while until a “power shift” happens top to bottom.
State Rep (2nd Suffolk Charlestown/Chelsea)- @DamaliVidot
Damali is one of the most charismatic and inspiring people I’ve ever met. Having someone like her in the statehouse is a dream to be honest. She’s already made massive impacts as the City Council president of Chelsea.
I know she will rise from the basement at the statehouse and still get things done. Easy choice Charlestown and Chelsea.
State Rep (12th Suffolk Milton, Mattapan, Dorchester, (sorry if I missed any neighborhoods)- @SEverettBoston
I’ve been able to hop onto a few online sessions that Stephanie was a panelist on. I believe she out of anyone, knows what to expect as a black woman at the statehouse.
She is the only person at the state level, I’m mentioning now that i’ve actually never met or had a conversation with but from what I’ve observed and the folks whom I’ve spoken to, she would be great for folks in the 12th Suffolk!
My favorite trio of incumbents in the statehouse: @NikaElugardo , @RepLizMiranda and @TeamTram. If its battling right wing crap on the daily basis, or trying to deal with progressive outrage on the left, these freshmen legislators have done a marvelous job.
They’re all women of color who faced intense battles of either incumbency or the perception of what a politician looks/sounds like. They need to be in the statehouse for years to come. I am hopeful they can one day be the committee chairs that they deserve to be.
That’s all I will discuss. I know there are some races I missed. Some I am just undecided on so I couldn’t in good conscious give you my opinion on them. Mind you, this is all my opinion. Anywho, vote by mail, early or if you have to in person!
