This is NOT a dashboard!!! @GovBillLee and @TNedu Commissioner @SchwinnTeach keep talking about having created a "dashboard" to track #COVID19 closings. But it was clear during yesterday's news briefing that Lee doesn't really understand what his administration is posting. 1/
A dashboard is, by definition, "a type of graphical user interface which often provides *** AT-A-GLANCE *** views of key performance indicators (KPIs) relevant to a particular objective or business process." 2/
Yesterday, Lee's team said that there were already nine schools that had closed to in-person learning due to COVID concerns. How do we know which schools? The governor said to go to the "dashboard." 3/
To get any information from this @TNedu "dashboard," you must type the names of each school district one by one. Tennessee has *** 137 *** school districts. 4/
And it isn't even as simple as typing in the names of 137 school districts. After the gov's news briefing, I asked @SchwinnTeach how I was supposed to find those nine schools from her "dashboard." She gave me the district names. One of them: Rutherford. 5/
Type "Rutherford" into @GovBillLee's "dashboard," and you get two options for clicking: "instructional models" and "district website." Suddenly, 137 potential sources for this information has become 274!!! 6/
Click on instructional models on this "dashboard" and you discover that Christiana Middle School is closed for in-person learning until August 24th.
But @SchwinnTeach told me there were TWO schools in Rutherford County that were closed. 7/
So that means you also have to click on "district website" -- another 137 clicks! That gives you the link to the website -- which means (you guessed it!) another 137 clicks! 8/
For those keeping count, we are now up to *** 548 *** potential clicks.
But.
We.
Are.
Not.
Finished. 9/
Rutherford lists its school closings on its "News and Announcements" page. If every district does this, then we are talking about, yes, another 137 clicks!!! 10/
Now we are up to a potential 685 clicks to get information from the @TNedu "dashboard."
I repeat: This is NOT a dashboard! 11/
Ironically, @GovBillLee and @SchwinnTeach cite this "dashboard" as a demonstration of their #COVID19 transparency. 12/12
BTW, if you want to engage in this fun little exercise yourself, here's a link to the "dashboard." tn.gov/education/dist…
And, by the way, to really understand what's going on statewide, you have to go through these 685 clicks EVERY SINGLE DAY!!! Or maybe everyone should just personally reach out to @SchwinnTeach and @TNedu every day.🤔
Trying to avoid 685 clicks on @TNedu’s “dashboard,” I asked if they could tell me how many ##COVID19 closures there were today and which districts. This is the response from @SchwinnTeach’s office.
