Yesterday, I attended a Virtual Cybersecurity Summit that was online yesterday from Philadelphia. Present was an official from the NATIONAL SECURITY DIVISION (NSD) of the US Department of Justice. The DNC data loss was mentioned in his presentation.
It dawned on me as he discussed the DNC data loss that we never see/hear anything in the MSM about the role NSD might have played in the DNC data loss that was attributed to two hacks by two separate Russian intelligence agencies.
We always here the FBI story about the two alleged Russian hacks of the DNC, but little, if anything, about NSD. Now, some would claim that there was nothing in the national security involved in those hacks, so the FBI would not respond as aggressively to it as a result.
This is false because in May 2014, John Brennan produced an intelligence report that indicated Russia was planning covert operations to interfere in other nations' elections.

Obama reacted to this information by warning Russia not to interfere in the 2014 election in Ukraine. The report indicated that cyber activity would accompany such attempts at election manipulation and interference.
Therefore, the presence of Russian agents inside the DNC network in 2015, the year before an election as candidates for President start declarations, constitutes a national security problem as it is a sign an election interference op is the reason for the intrusion.
In July 2015, after Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump both declared as candidates, the Russian intelligence Advanced Persistent Threat (APT) named "Cozy Bear" allegedly penetrated the DNC. This was reported to the FBI by the National Security Agency (NSA), which is...
another reason to conclude the alleged intrusion is a national security problem. The FBI had grounds to seek a search warrant to enter the DNC network, or issue a National Security Letter (NSL), a search warrant that does not require a judge's signature, to force entry into...
...the DNC network. The FBI never sought a warrant of any kind, nor did they issue an NSL. The Cozy Bear Russian spies had the run of the DNC network for an entire year. The second intrusion was attributed to Russian military intelligence (GRU) and was the "Fancy Bear" APT 28.
Fancy Bear allegedly hacked into the DNC network in March 2016 and was reported to have stolen the DNC emails from ten different inboxes on May 23 and May 25, 2016. Those emails were given to Wikileaks and published on July 22, 2016.
The FBI's seemingly lackadaisical approach to the intrusion into the DNC network by two groups of Russian spies led me to ask the following questions of the presenter:

1. Did the NSD ever get notified about the May 2014 CIA report about Russian plans for election interference?
2. Was the FBI making regular reports to the NSD about the matter of Russian spies running around inside the DNC network in the months preceding an election?

We posted questions to a Chat feed. This one was muted so the participants could not see it. It was not answered.
Have any other researchers ever found any reference to the actions/decisions of the NSD during these alleged Russian hacking operations.

FBI has to inform them of National Security matters.
Since I did not address this to any researchers, I'll retweet to several researchers to seek their response and suggestions.
