I read this thread with so much devastation. Devastated because it shouldn’t end with “It actually feels good to be free, I’m grateful “. Shola shouldn’t be grateful for 90days of dehumanization. He should be suing. @GEJonathan personified culture of oppression with this. Thread
At a time when the leading opposition party, the @OfficialPDPNig is trying to rally the Nigerian public against the anti-free speech actions of the APC, it is laughable that the fmr President who is often times referenced as democratic should be the one at the center of this.
Let me make it clear - if you are averse to public ridicule, insult, mockery, criticism or whatever, DO NOT GO CLOSE TO PUBLIC OFFICE. Once elected, you become the employee of the people. This master-slave relationship between our govt & the people is a carry over of slavery.
What the GEJ’s oppression of @jayyth3dope only shows that the culture of oppression, ridicule, dehumanization & non regard for human life, due process & value of the Nigerian citizen go beyond party affiliation. It is deep in the DNA of the Nigerian ruling class. It is pathetic.
Even the incumbent President Buhari has a parody @TheMbuhari, who obviously hasn’t held back with his sarcasms. It is unfortunate that the opposition who should be providing the platform for ordinary citizens to have a voice against govt oppression is now personifying it.
We can’t all be calling out El Rufai, especially along with PDP members & supporters, while their peaceful hero demonstrates hatred & lack of understanding for free speech & empathy, rule of law & whatever the hell is expected of a leader towards a young man. It is devastating.
Also worthy of note is that twitter rules doesn’t discourage parody or sarcastic jibes at political appointees. @jayyth3dope’s thread explains it all. This is an unfortunate incident. And anyone supporting GEJ on this is either myopic or hypocritical when they criticize PMB.
I’m devastated bcos people like GEJ are part of the past leaders that demolished the system, where our citizens can only be grateful for surviving a terribly dehumanizing experience, instead of being livid & suing, knowing that the system will bring them justice. Double jeopardy.
At the end of the day, politicians buy justice. It is the political class against the common man. The political class have power, access to finance and ability to buy, control or order the police to do their bidding to intimidate us. APC or PDP. Modus operandi is the same.
