Remember when I wondered who is the owner of ammonium nitrate responsible for #BeirutBlast?
According to this 👇👇, The ship that carried the huge supply was owned by a Cypriot businessman with ties to a bank used by the Hezbollah terror group!
Bingo!

Can the Syrian scenario happen in Egypt?

The short answer is no. I will explain in this thread 🧵👇
1/
Yesterday, many shared videos of alleged protests in Egypt.
Most who shared those videos, judging by their profiles, are pro-Brotherhood, Syrians, and others anti-Egyptian president Sisi.

But those videos were not recent, which raises suspicion that they are part of psychological warfare operation as Babak suggested 👇
2/
Those who shared those videos didn’t even bother to check that most of them were recorded in Summer, judging with what those protestors were wearing 🤷🏻‍♀️

Thread 🧵 on Syria:

Today, after calls for protests, many Syrians in Damascus and Homs have marched in the streets calling for civic and secular streets, amidst little coverage by nearly all legacy media

@BBC
@CNN
@SkyNews

They are rightly concerned about the future of their country amidst very legitimate concerns.

I will try to explain why?

1/
First, women rights

A spokesman of the new [Islamist] administration claimed that the nature of women doesn’t make them fit for all jobs”

Syrian Islamists seem to ignore the basic concept of gender equality, despite reassurance to Western officials

They clearly forgot the number of Syrian women who revolted against Assad and paid hefty prices.

@vonderleyen
@Keir_Starmer
@EmmanuelMacron

2/
Second, Christian minorities.

Although the new authorities in Syria allowed Christians to openly celebrate Christmas, with plenty of coverage on social media, there are disturbing reports of violence against Christians, especially the Greek ones.

Here is one example
👇👇.

One can call it “an individual act of violence” except there are other gruesome incidents, like beheading of one Christian, and shooting of his wife.

Just days after ousting of Assad, and the subtle hijab enforcement has begun in Syria.
Thread 🧵

First, this girl that met Jolani and he asked her to cover her hair. 1/ Image
She later appeared on the official Syrian TV defending Jolani and how it is “his right” to appear however he prefers.

Clearly she sees no intrusion on her right to appear however SHE prefers 🤷🏻‍♀️

2/
But it is not just this Syrian girth!

A TV anchor appeared with Jolani, with a “minimum accepted” headscarf

Fact:
Hundred of thousands of Arabs and Muslims have been killed in
🔺Syria
🔺Sudan
🔺Yemen

But they didn’t trigger 1/10 of the reactions we are witnessing now in the war of #Gaza.

Why?
Because, in Gaza, they enemy is non-Arab and non-Muslim.

Let’s stop kidding ourself and have the courage to admit that.
For Islamists, the crime of Israel is not just the “occupation of Palestine”, but the disruption of their grand dream of the resurrection of the Islamic Caliphate.
For Arab nationalists, the crime of Israel is not the “occupation of Palestine”, but the disruption of their dream of one Arab grand nation from the Arabian -Gulf to the Atlantic ocean

I am accused of “justifying occupation”, which is a big fat lie.
My guilt is remembering the long history of bad choices & wasted opportunities.

Remember when hijacking airplanes, killing athletes were the Palestinian answer to Israeli occupation?

Remember when suicide attacks were marketed as the answer to the occupation?

Remember when firing rockets was the innovation of the resistance?

None of the above liberated Palestine.
Why, and how bloody pogrom and kidnapping women and children will?

#Hamas
#Gaza
What is the best of the best outcome for the Palestinians from this current bloody mess?

A ceasefire+ few charity donation+ pledges to rebuilt their homes, which will take months, so they will spend winter in the cold.

How on earth can any one describe that as “a victory”?

#طوفان_الاقصي
At the end of the current confrontation, Hamas leaders will tour Doha and Istanbul, singing the songs of victory, while the ordinary people of Gaza will be homeless and jobless.

But hey, highlighting that apparently makes me a traitor 🤷🏻‍♀️

#Thread #Iran
If you just tuned in, you will see how Iran's TL is full of images and videos of protests all over the country following the death of #Mahsa_Amini who was accused of improper wearing of Hijab.
Here are few thoughts. 1/
Since I attended late Shah funeral in Egypt, I developed deep interest in Iran, which increased immensely, after I visited the country years ago. Unlike Egyptians, the people of Iran fully understand the pain of living under an Islamists regime and have no illusions about it 2/
Protests against Islamic Republic is not new:
-1999 Students protests
-2009 Presidential election
-2011/12 protests (influenced by Arab spring)
-2018/19 strikes & protests against economic situation
-2021 uprising of thirsty due water shortage
All failed to uproot the regime 3/
