🤖 Email marketing automation for tax planning season

With email marketing tools, though controversial, you can track opens, link clicks, and set conditional follow-ups accordingly

Here's my playbook for the upcoming tax planning season, and a link to the Miro board 👇
It starts with a single email to all of the 1040 clients I billed >$X for their 2019 return

Salutation is personalized by the system + additional text if the following applied in 2019:

-We did TP in prev year
-They owed over $X in tax
-Underpmt penalties
-Late pmt penalties
After the first paragraph, they get a link to one of three different two minute Loom videos

The video they get is dependent upon if:
-They didn't have tax planning last year
-They owed >$X in 2019
-A fallback if the above two don't apply
Lastly, I include links to:

-15 minute optional calendly appointment
-Engagement letter proposal
-Short typeform asking if any major changes
-Sharefile upload

Next is where the email automation fun starts:
If they haven't *opened* the email in 2 weeks, send a follow-up reminder

If they don't open that one in another week, have an admin call:

"We reached out about doing some tax planning but didn't hear back, what would be the best email to send you more info at?"
Next, if any of the tasks have been completed, signed EL, uploaded files, completed form or optionally scheduled a meeting via Calendly

Then either send a follow-up EM acknowledging the completed items, and say I still need xyz

Or if all completed, send info to prep
If they haven't completed *any* tasks

If they *clicked* the Calendly link (but didn't schedule), I'll call them

Otherwise I'll build a follow-up email

If they didn't *click* the Loom link, I'll include the 2 minute explainer again, and refer to the to-do's in the previous EM
All of the above can execute automatically, and you can build on the flow next year

The fun of it is you get to think like a marketer, and include triggers in your email to capture indications of interest

Then build workflows to increase the likelihood of the desired outcome
