Today an independent commission declared Africa free of wild poliovirus. This is a momentous achievement for public health made possible by the strong partnerships of the Global Polio Eradication Initiative, the leadership of @CDCgov & @USAID, & countless volunteers. #EndPolio
This victory shows that #VaccinesWork. Collaboration at all levels, along with sustained investment from the U.S., has brought us within reach of the complete elimination of this debilitating disease. #EndPolio
Today’s announcement comes after 47 African countries reported zero transmission detection. Recent successes in eliminating polio have bolstered other initiatives in global health, including efforts to end malaria and HIV-AIDS. #EndPolio
As the co-founder of the Senate Malaria and Neglected Tropical Diseases Caucus, I will continue to support efforts to eliminate these debilitating, but preventable diseases. #EndPolio
This is the most dangerous national security moment since World War II. And it does not help that our adversaries are increasingly brandishing their nuclear capabilities. A 🧵(1/8)
North Korea is flaunting its growing uranium enrichment capacity, with Kim Jong Un showing off never-before-seen imagery of the work his scientists are conducting on nuclear weaponry. This threatens stability. (2/8)
China fired a new ICBM outside its territory for the first time in more than 40 years. Xi Jinping is placing his military on a wartime footing, and these long-range missile launches are intended to put the United States on notice. (3/8)

All sectors of the seafood industry, including fishermen, aquaculture producers, processors, and distributors have been impacted by the coronavirus outbreak. @SenateCommerce examined ways to build a stronger and more resilient seafood supply chain.
Fishery disaster relief is chronically delayed, including much of the aid meant for fishermen experiencing losses because of COVID-19. I have introduced legislation to streamline the process and hold the federal government accountable. wicker.senate.gov/public/index.c…
While I am pleased the #CARESact provided billions to support direct purchases of commodities from farmers and ranchers, the benefit to fishermen and seafood farmers is limited. I have urged @USDA to expand food purchases to include additional seafood. wicker.senate.gov/public/index.c…
Today the Senate Armed Services Committee reported a strong, bipartisan proposal for our national defense that would provide our military men and women with the tools and resources they need to keep us safe.
I thank @SASCMajority Chairman @JimInhofe and Ranking Member @SenJackReed for their tireless work to ensure the NDAA advanced on time despite the extraordinary circumstances facing our nation.
In Mississippi, this proposal would have a major impact. I was glad to see that the final proposal includes strong support for shipbuilding and military manufacturing and provisions to upgrade our state’s military bases. #355ships
Congratulations to @AF_Academy Cadet Zachary K. Bailey of Madison, Miss.! Zack has been named to the 100 Year Honor Roll in recognition of his superior academic achievement while at the Air Force Academy. usafa.edu/about/cadet-aw…
The 100 Year Honor Roll is reserved for students who graduate at the top of their class. Zack was #1 out of 967 other cadets in the Class of 2020.
I was glad to recommend Zack for the @AF_Academy several years ago when he was a student at Madison Central High School in Madison.
The killing of George Floyd was senseless and wrong. No human being should ever have to die the way he did, especially at the hands of an officer who had sworn to uphold the law.
Our commitment to the rule of law is what makes America great. I am glad to see the officer involved in Floyd’s death facing consequences so that the family and our society can receive justice.
Our commitment to the rule of law also means there is no place for rioting, looting, and burning property in our cities.
