Corruptus incredibils. We need to be #remote we need flexibility and we need options for outdoor learning. But before all that delay the opening and hit pause !
No each school wont be able to do the same thing. We have been screaming at the top of our lungs about inequities for decades already. But outdoor learning, field trips, service projects all should be on the table in @NYCSchools
@BronxZoo@NYBG
I am sure there are project based learning units that can be done at the zoo and garden. There are plenty of schools in walking distance and a week long in depth research project could be done in partnership.
Folk have some valid concerns, but I definitely could see tents in a play yard so kids can eat lunch and duty free! No instructional lunch for the kids. #outdoorlearning#healthjustice#red4ednyc

Shouts out to the teachers and parents from SMS and Hunter who came through on tonights PEP to discuss the problems at the MLK campus. While I agree that being int the basement and never having natural light is a problem, jt is a function of these small schools sharing old bldgs
What needs to happen is a simplfying of the high schools in NYC. An end to the lies of many themed schools that have a sell by date and crash and burn. We need stable schools that are well staffed with teachers not admin.
All schools should offer arts, music, dance and drama, all schools ahould offer proper science labs and a choice of languages and electives. If all the schools in the MLK building were united and had access to the whole building, it wouldnt be an issue that only one gets no light
What does one do when faced with a nonsense report where half the answers are no or custodian and or principal unsure? Does one get on a train go into a building not yet certified as safe to participate in professional development that is done remotely anyway?
Even if granted enough time to work in ones room and on bulletin boards, some rooms may not be usable. Like the 103 classrooms mentioned at the MLK campus.
The union has a moral imperative to protect its members and make sure their working conditions are safe. If a pandemic and botched response is not a reason to strike, ... #healthjustice
then we will never have a better more valid reason to exercise our collective power as a union to demand improvements to our working conditions. Nothing else will compare. #healthjustice
