Ken always pushed us to be better. Never allowing us to settle.
He saw more in us and he changed the lives of so many Kibera scholars.

We thank God for him

#RememberingKenOkoth
Ken was a firm believer that you did not need to serve a citizenry that was dis-empowered. Rights needed to be lived realities.

Not just words on paper!

#RememberingKenOkoth
Ken Okoth was extremely vocal around matters of health and human rights. He believed in voicing community health issues, gaps and what needed to change. He was not afraid
to vocalize reproductive health issues which are largely unpopular among politicians.

#RememberingKenOkoth
Ken also worked closely with the Nubian Rights Forum (NRF) towards getting justice and strengthening peoples’ voices. He was a leader who championed for the rights of the Nubian community especially on citizenship, land issues & addressing forceful eviction.

Ken led from the front.

He was a man of less words and more action. He was prepared to get his hands dirty.

He believed in the letter and the spirit of the Constitution.

He respected it, he embodied it & he implemented it.

We must do the same.

We celebrate Ken for being a firm believer of women and girls capabilities. It was dear to his heart and he understood the plight of women in our society. Ken was a mentor to many of them and encouraged them to strive to reach
their highest potential.

#RememberingKenOkoth
Ken believed in collaboration and partnership to empower people. It is in this spirit that he brought together different organizations to champion for the education of young
people in Kibera, Carolina For Kibera being one of them.

He was a blessing!

#RememberingKenOkoth
Ken was Keen to ensure the right to affordable housing was progressively achieved for the poor and marginalized. He worked very closely with KNHRC which was mandated by the court to mediate the then stalled Kibera Housing Project allocation process.

truly embodied the aspirations of Chapter 6 of the Constitution."

#RememberingKenOkoth
Ken's position and membership of the Human Rights Caucus at the National Assembly in his first term as MP, when civic space, media freedom, CSOs and human rights were under threat was a plus for Kenyans.

back against regression!

#RememberingKenOkoth
Ken was very critical and supportive to our legislative campaigns through the Kenya Parliamentary Human Rights Association. His wisdom & ability to think on his feet made him a darling of many as he proved to be a problem solver. @IMLU_org

#RememberingKenOkoth
Through Mheshimiwa we rallied our push for the enactment of the Prevention of Torture Bill and the National Coroners Service Bill which had suffered several setbacks then owing to the different political ideologies that played out in parliament.
@IMLU_org

#RememberingKenOkoth
Today we have the two important pieces of legislation that are critical in the fight for human rights. His love & commitment saw his office partner with @IMLU_org in
commemoration of the UN International Human Rights Day, December 10th, 2016 in Kibera.

#RememberingKenOkoth
We have so much to celebrate in Hon Ken Okoth.

He remains the Icon of hope that Political leadership can be transformational! He meant business not only for Kibra but for Kenya through his work in Parliament. Ken understood his role as an MP.

#RememberingKenOkoth
As first time MP in 2013, during the life of the 11th parliament, he made a total of 979 contributions in Parliament.

He was taken away from us too soon!

#RememberingKenOkoth
Ken struggled with the institution that is Parliament and how difficult it is to make a difference but he tried his best to give it his best. He was instrumental in the enactment at least 15 pieces of legislation.

What has your MP done for you?

#RememberingKenOkoth
Ken had a private member bill on consolidating registration of person’s laws in Kenya, the Marijuana bill to help improve cancer care in the country, that are still pending, and which we hope will be passed in his honor.

#RememberingKenOkoth
Ken had his hand on the National pulse 😍. He joined a vigil to mourn policemen who had been killed in Kapedo. When he
reached Parliament he received the petition and later joined the team in a vigil at the office of the Deputy Inspector of Police.

#RememberingKenOkoth
Ken loved the people of Kibra & invested his brilliant mind in securing the best service possible. When he received the designs for the schools he would walk & show off his designs to anyone who cared to listen.

We were all invested, his passion infectious

#RememberingKenOkoth
Ken was not just a visionary he was a missionary with very high levels of education and integrity. Ken was a leader that you would entrust your own child to knowing they will
be well taken care of. Can we keep up his legacy of political leadership?

#RememberingKenOkoth
As Ken struggled, He immensely appreciated the privileged medical care he received as an MP but couldn’t help & empathize with his constituents who when faced with similar circumstances would have gone through untold suffering. 😪

#RememberingKenOkoth
Each of his experiences caused him to think reflect inwards and project his reflections to his constituents, his country and even the world .

Tears come to my eyes when I remember his last public appearance. Though struggling, he put his people first.

#RememberingKenOkoth
Ken had a progressive and practical approach to the Issue of
Cannabis. Legalisation would allow individuals ailing from
various illnesses such as cancer, Crohn’s disease, epilepsy, glaucoma among others - to benefit from the proven attributes of Marijuana.

#RememberingKenOkoth
Legalisation would go a long way in supporting the National Council on Administrative Justice’s mission to declassify and decriminalize petty offences thereby reducing discriminatory incarceration.

#RememberingKenOkoth
Ken believed that regulated and legalised marijuana would open up Kenya to many possibilities including billions in revenue from growing, processing and selling marijuana products domestically and internationally.
