I often reflect on @LeonardPittsJr1 piece on MLK:

"Fear purchased the gun.
Delusion loaded it.
Ignorance adjusted the sight.
Intolerance pulled the trigger.
Fifty years ago, those forces killed the man.
They have sought ever since to kill the memory.”

They kill the memory when they hack "I Have a Dream" into palatable platitudes while destroying everything he stood for. They kill the memory when they whitewash his radical views. They kill the memory when prop up a rose-colored version of him as proof we "beat racism"
How often do they use the quote about Black people being killed by police in the speech? 57 years ago? I try to listen to the "I Have a Dream" in it's entirety each year, as well as read his Letters from Birmingham Jail and think about the white moderate. But I always end with
His final speech. "I Have Been to the Mountaintop". By then he was was vocal in radical ideas. He was tired. He knew he "might not get there with you" with a target on his back. It's a rallying cry to carry the torch, but firmly convicted we'd get there.
He was more than peaceful platitudes. He believed in radical change to end systemic racism, poverty, war, corruption; for better health care and environment.

He nearly collapses after the impassioned ending.

He was murdered the next day.
