Good Morning Orbost!
Orbost railway station was opened 10 April 1916 terminus of the Orbost (Gippsland) line, closed in 1987. Station was located on the west side of the Snowy river, even though the town of Orbost was on the east side.

The line traversed difficult railway-building country with many rivers, creeks and sections of rugged terrain. A number of timber trestle bridges, metal bridges, & composite timber & metal bridges.

Snowy River Floodplain Railway Bridges
two low-level bridges forming part of a causeway over the river flats, leading towards the Orbost station site.

Construction Bairnsdale to Orbost line started 1912 opened to the public on April 1916. One of VR's finest construction engineering achievements. In 2016 Engineers Australia recognised with the award of an Engineering Heritage Marker
