The Isle of Dogs & South Poplar may have to deliver 1.04% of all new housing in England based on a new algorithm
Tower Hamlets 1.82%
For the last 16 years the Mayor of London has set housing targets for each London Borough (& also the Isle of Dogs) in the London Plan

So in current London Plan Tower Hamlets has highest housing targets 3,473 a year
In new draft London Plan TH also has highest again 3,511 a year (incl IoD 29,000 over life of plan)
But note London Legacy Development Corp has high targets incl parts of TH, Newham, Hackney

The Mayor of Tower Hamlets then sets housing targets for each part of TH in his Local Plan
So for example in the new TH Local Plan voted on by Cllrs in January, 57% of all new housing in TH has to go in about 1/5 of the Borough, the Isle of Dogs & South Poplar

But the government are consulting on a new England housing target of 337,000 new homes a year with Tower Hamlets may have to deliver 6,121 homes

57% of 6,121 number is 3,489 (assuming TH continues to push most new development to the IoD)
Lichfields article a good summary of the changes, they suggest in TH 3 year average of 2,785 actually built each year
So unlikely we can deliver 6,121 or 3,489

These new targets do not yet replace Mayor of Londons targets (of theoretical interest for now)
But proposed changes to planning system, Planning for the Future may have our targets set nationally
At which point these targets become v important for us

Conservatives MP's etc have noticed that these new housing targets have an impact on Tory shires and raised an outcry, they do not like being asked to build more, so IF the new planning reforms last I would imagine targets

being moved to urban areas like ours, even if undeliverable without a major increase in density or encouraging development in other parts of TH then just E14 & Aldgate (how likely is that?)
So these two consultations need a response from us locally before they end
