If you’re a new Twitter follower, welcome! I’m Sr. Simone, a Sister of Social Service and Executive Director of @NETWORKLobby (organizers of #NunsontheBus) since 2004. NETWORK has been around much longer -- it was founded nearly 50 years ago by a group of 47 Catholic Sisters
I am a lobbyist, and a lawyer. That’s what NETWORK was founded to do - lobby for more just federal policies. I’m proud to lobby on Capitol Hill with other faith partners b/c if we’re not in Congressional offices, then the wealthy & powerful continue deciding our nation’s policies
Every day I’m honored to continue this work, in the spirit of NETWORK's founding Sisters. Some call me a radical for believing -- and saying publicly -- that our Catholic faith encompasses multitude of issues, but
I’ve traveled across the country and met so many people harmed by our economy’s inequality, our political system’s heartlessness, and our society’s judgement and exclusion. I hold each of these stories in my heart and they drive our advocacy at NETWORK
A few weeks ago, NETWORK made an unprecedented statement opposing President Donald Trump’s reelection. While each voter is called to discern who they will vote for, we cannot be silent knowing the grave moral danger Trump’s reelection poses for our nation. networklobby.org/news/catholic-…
If you find the current political situation in the United States distressing, the answer is not giving up; the answer is to turn towards this trouble. We need everyone to envision a new future that cares for all in our nation, and help spread that vision to others
We can do this! We can create a society that supports the 100%. Where Black Lives Matter, immigrants are welcome, and all are cared for! Join us at NETWORK in doing the work of transforming our society: networklobby.org/connect/
I am appalled at President Trump's refusal to condemn white nationalists. Not only did Donald Trump not listen to the debate moderator, he spent four years ignoring the needs of the American people. In the debate he spent
more time defending the Proud Boys while failing to address the issues that matter most like protecting the planet, caring for the sick, or fixing structural racism. Pope Francis once wrote the role of a good politician is to be 'genuinely disturbed by the state of society.'
Donald Trump isn't a good politician and lacks even an ounce of empathy for the suffering of our people. Watching our President lie, bully, and appear unable to engage in civil discourse makes me want to weep for our nation.
No police officer should have the ability to use grenade launchers, military aircraft, machine guns, or tanks on members of our communities. #DemilitarizeThePolice
Yesterday, the House of Representatives led by @SpeakerPelosi introduced the #JusticeInPolicing Act that will help end the pattern of violence against people of color by law enforcement since the beginning of our nation’s history.
Black people are 2.5 times more likely to be killed by the police. To protect people from police abuse of power, we must begin by demilitarizing the police. statista.com/chart/21872/ma…
George Floyd’s murder by Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin is another sinful and horrifying act of racism and police brutality in the United States. How many times have we said this should never happen again? And still, (1/7)
abuse of power by a white police officer has led to the death of another innocent Black man. My deepest sympathy and prayers are with George Floyd’s family and friends, and with all who have lost a loved one as a result of white supremacy. (2/7)
Justice-seekers in Minneapolis and across the country are crying out for justice, yet their very lives are being threatened by violent policing tactics. Violence is wrong, whether it is encouraged by the police or the President of the United States. (3/7)
A few thoughts on Speaker... We need proven leadership in trying times, and Leader @NancyPelosi is the tested leadership we need.
I have seen @TeamPelosi's political acumen in working with Republicans in Congress and the White House. In turbulent times, she know how to get things done.
.@NancyPelosi leads effectively for workers and their families. There are the critical issues that will be faced by the 116th Congress.
