Don’t believe the spin. COVID has caused unbelievable tragedy in the US. The 180,000 deaths are in my opinion an underestimate. We probably lost more without making a diagnosis.
Worldwide only 9 countries have had more deaths per million than us. None with more total deaths.

Anyone minimizing the tragedy of COVID should go talk to families who have lost loved ones.

Some have asked how do we know people would have lived many years. For someone who is alive at age 80, the expected median survival is 7-10 years.

Some people are confusing life expectancy at birth with life expectancy in people who have already lived and reached a certain age.
