1/ Last Friday I had the opportunity to speak about sovereignty at Underground Citadel hosted by absolute legend, @KatieAnanina. This was a satellite event at #BitBlockBoom 2020.

undergroundcitadel.com

I learned a lot and each talk built on one another.
2/ The sessions:

* Self Sovereignty - @MichaelHawaii
* Flag Theory - @KatieAnanina
* Off the Grid Homes - Sustainable Homes
* Emergency Medical Care - @empact
* KeyKeeper - @vandrewattycpa
* Physical Security - @BTCJSON1
* Can't Stop the Signal - (me) @_joerodgers
3/ The purpose of my talk was to make the case for 3D printed guns and why Bitcoiners should care/pay attention to this.

This presentation and all the resources described can be found at guns.team.
4/ As you know Bitcoin is many things to many people. Over time, Bitcoin disciplines are emerging. This is the beauty of FOSS, specialization happens naturally.
5/ This talk is about the overlap with the 3d printer community and the gun community. My hope is that you walk away with a better understanding of why 3d printing guns matters and how to get started if you choose to do so.
6/ First thing, go pick up a copy of the Sovereign Individual (SI).

So let’s talk about how we got here.
The SI Thesis is about how civilization has gone through a handful of significant changes in how society is structured and governed.
7/ Each shift in governance was enabled by a technological revolution.

* The agricultural revolution lead to the rise of the church
* The industrial revolution lead to the rise of the nation state
* And the information revolution will lead to the rise of the sovereign individual
8/ With all it's flaws, Some good things came of the Nation-State. When you look back at the founding of America, liberty and sovereignty were the driving force.

The revolution gave birth to the bill of rights and it is part of our shared American DNA.
9/ While the revolution gave birth to the bill of rights, the state has slowly chiseled away our rights over the past 2 centuries.

As a Bitcoiner, you are familiar with the States monopoly over money creation, but it also has a monopoly on violence.
10/ Here’s the thing about the state, no matter how clear the bill of rights is written, the State will do whatever it can to increase it’s power.

The state wants sole control. It wants monopoly of violence. It wants no competition. The state does not care about the individual.
11/ In early 2013 things changed forever.

A fellow Arkansan and freedom fighter named Cody Wilson released the first 3d printed gun files to the wild. At that moment, the genie was out of the bottle. The economics of violence shifted. The information revolution was at play
12/ There is no shortage of firearms in this country but 3d printing guns does two things that is very radical. It disrupts the states monopoly on information and violence.
13/ The state is framing 3D printed guns with their old view, trying to craft laws around the 2nd amendment, but 3D printed guns are about the first amendment. This is about code. Code is speech and can't be stopped.

(LIBERTY INTENSIFYING)
14/ Since 3d gun development is based on free and opensource software, development is distributed.

People are free to work on what they are most passionate about and the files are all over the place, you just need to know where to find them.
15/ Since the Liberator was realeased, we've seen remarkable development of 3D printed guns. You can now print mags, frames, and build complete firearms with a printer and a trip to the local HW store.
16/ Development is coming in many shapes and sizes. It is difficult to stay atop all the models being released and that trend will continue to grow.
17/ In the early days of the movement, files we’re dropped & users would have to figure out how to put the guns together.

Early devs moved the ball forward & progress was made, but with little to no documentation this meant fewer people were willing or able to build the guns.
18/ 2020 has been a renaissance of technical documentation. Here we see the Anderson Firearms all printed AR15 lower and the FGC9 instructions. Both of these documents are incredibly detailed and literally hold the users hands as they are guided through the building process.
19/ Here's what you need to get started: software, filament, and a printer.
20/ This is Fusion360. It is not mandatory but useful to understand what designers use to make the 3D models. Once you get some experience under your belt, you can customize prints or even develop your own prints.
21/ This is Cura. It is a slicer. You will use this with each print. This sw "slices" the 3D models, designed in Fusion360, into a file that the 3D printer will use to make your print.
22/ Filament comes in a ton of options, but the go to for beginners and gun printing is PLA+
23/ The go to printer to get started is the Ender3. It's a basic model and the cheapest way to get started. I just saw it on AliExpress last week for $170, the barrier to entry is quite low.
24/ The basic workflow is outlined here. It is basically create a sliced file, load it into the printer, tweak your settings, and hit PRINT! That's it. So easy, you DO NOT need to be a mechanical engineer to pull this off!
25/ Yes it costs money to get started but the entry cost continues to drop. Once you get the printer setup, the main item you will need to continue your journey is filament.
26/ Files are readily available if you know where to look. Do your own research, or head over to guns.team. I bookmarked the best resources for you!
