Maine wedding outbreak got worse: Maine health officials say 123 people have tested #COVID19 positive related to wedding. 25% of the cases were tertiary, “meaning they were infected by someone who was infected by someone who attended the wedding.”

2) One woman died after having contact with a wedding guest. Maine CDC also said a wedding guest infected a nursing home staffer, while an employee at a local jail who attended the wedding caught the virus and subsequently sparked an outbreak at the jail.
3) The wedding also resulted in COVID spread to a local school, through a teacher who was hired to “provide entertainment” at the wedding.
4) Just a week ago, it was just 53 cases. Now it’s more than doubled!! And a week ago, 1 in 4 cases were in children <18 a well. Longer discussion of the outbreak 👇

Meaning what? ➡️ Not only does average have to hit >=50%, but the 95% confidence interval’s lower range must also EXCLUDE 30%.
2) Here is what experts say:

“successful vaccines should show an estimated risk reduction of at least one-half, with sufficient precision to conclude that the true vaccine efficacy is greater than 30%. This means that the 95% CI for trial result should exclude efficacy <30%.”
3) “Deployment of a weakly effective vaccine could actually worsen the COVID-19 pandemic if authorities wrongly assume it causes a substantial reduction in risk, or if vaccinated individuals wrongly believe they are immune, hence reducing compliance with, other control measures.”

2) “They’re thinking there may be 10k or less deaths that were actually singularly COVID-19,” Ernst said, seemingly referring to debunked conspiracy theory that only ~ 6% of COVID-19 deaths were due to the virus. “I’m just really curious. It would be interesting to know that.”
