Interesting how the "Research" Departments at NBC, CBS, ABC doubled as gov psych. warfare research divisions (commercial counterparts to academic "mass communications" depts).

Of course, Paul Klein got his start in NBC's research dept, rising to research VP in a few years.

Probably why the network research departments gave their collaborative research projects acronyms like ARMS and RADAR (which Klein was a lead developer of)

Hugh Malcolm Beville, Jr., Klein's predecessor and head of research at NBC when Klein joined and rose up the ranks. Likelihood that Beville was in one of the 6 psywar centers during WW2 was high, the question is which?

OSS personnel files appear to provide the answer

The CBS Research Department's connection to the psywar researchers & operators usually gets more attention, thanks to Frank Stanton (OWI), head of audience research at CBS before his appointment as CBS president.

But NBC's research dept was no exception. Beville was not only OSS, but colleagues of the very same luminaries in psywar research, including Stanton.

Beville's close friendship with NBC president Robert Sarnoff, son of the fascist, Mussolini-loving spook, General David Sarnoff (RCA president), played a big part in Beville's rise and influence within NBC.

Guess who else was NBC research VP? Richard Lindheim, Klein's friend who went on to direct the Institute for Creative Technologies, a CIA/DARPA/Army collab to design military hardware, virtual reality, war sims etc.
