Bc White America prefers the Black & Brown folk w/ accents, who ain’t us, who can’t trace their line to American slavery, & who don’t have an ancestor who picked cotton or experienced the terror of the KKK.
Your Shakespearean training doesn’t help ur performance in the roles u generally take—playing Black Americans. What matters is giving that character the heartbeat of a lived (& inherited) ADOS experience.
The characters nearly always end up flat & one dimensional, like Cynthia Erivo weirdly bucking her eyes 👀 in ‘Harriet’.
