Stephen Few also has a general taxonomy of table types, based on their Primary Function, Relationship Type, and Relationship.

The {gt} package provides a Grammar of Tables:

Added portions to the table are thus defined by iterative pipe calls.

{gt} also allows for the grouped data and grouped summary rows!
