Why do #WomenInSTEM drop out of STEM at a higher rate than men? I sometimes wonder about this, and then I get a proposal review that says the PI (i.e., me) “does not appear to be qualified to carry out the proposed work” in specific areas where I have already published. 1/3
Imagine getting such feedback when you’re a fresh Ph.D. writing her first proposal? I feel that there are biases in the review system, and there's plenty of studies that agree. I'd like to see funding agencies take more action to address these issues. 2/3
And if you have gotten such unjustified and personal feedback, I invite you to consider yourself in good company! 😛 3/3
