1/I've studied Newt Gingrich for a while now (not as much as Julian E. Zelizer, read his book, Burning Down the House). Trump uses Newt's "Playbook" a lot. Since Trump-Pence are already telegraphing their play against Kamala ("too liberal") I want y'all to know that's Newt too. Paint a female candidate as extremist (e.g. ruthless in the
2/"In 1978, [Newt] ran an ad blasting his opponent, Virginia Shapard, saying, “If elected, Virginia will move to Washington, but her husband and her children will remain in Griffin. When elected, Newt will keep his family together.” latimes.com/archives/la-xp…
3/If you know anything about Gingrich, you know how hypocritical - and sexist - that is. If Pence attempts to use (as I term it) "The Shapard Play" he'll paint himself as a "family church-going man" while attempting to disparage Kamala's "family values." nytimes.com/2007/03/09/us/…
4/Of course, if Pence does, it'll be wrong, hypocritical, and a lie. Pence supports policies that have separated families. All of the dangerous policies Trump touts, Pence has been in full support of. Pence is still the darling to Right Wing billionaires: newyorker.com/magazine/2017/…
5/Where we'll run into issues -- is with the media. The media should know how dangerous Pence is. He's not this innocent "Aw Shucks" humble guy he's portrayed himself as (and the Media bought into). Like Newt, it's Pence who is "ruthless" not his opponent. washingtonpost.com/outlook/is-it-…
6/So be ready #KHive. Newt taught Pence and Trump how to use the media (and hyperpartisanship) to their advantage. Push the media to vet Pence, they never fully have. Don't let the media fall into misogynoiristic tropes. Call them out. Have Kamala's back. washingtonpost.com/news/the-fix/w…

1/This is Jacob Blake's sister Letetra Widman. Here is her powerful statement.

"I am my brother's keeper."
2/"And when you say the name Jacob Blake, make sure you say father, make sure you say,, cousin, make sure you say, son, make sure you say uncle, but most importantly, make sure you say, human. Human life. Let it marinate in your mouth, in your minds. A human life."
3/"Just like every single one of y'all and every, we're human. His life matters. So many people have reached out to me telling me they're sorry that this happened to my family. Well, don't be sorry 'cause this has been happening to my family for a long time."

1/I did a presentation on narratives created by conservatives Newt Gingrich, William J. Baroody (founder of Conservative Think Tank, AEI), Lewis F. Powell (fmr. SCOTUS Justice), Roger Ailes (Founder, Fox News). You should know, they detested their "base". Called them lazy.
2/When you hear Fox News talking points regurgitated by self-described Republican citizens, that's by design. Roger Ailes said in his internal memos during the Nixon Administration, "People are lazy." With TV, "Thinking is done for you." What did they want their base "to think"?
3/They wanted them to think they were "The Real America" and that ____________ (insert made-up enemy here: Communists, Hippies, Black People, Democrats, Socialists, Radicals, etc.) were trying to "take America from them."
Why did they do this? Profit.

That's it. Profit.

1/The reason Russia/GOP have decided to question Kamala's Blackness is because it's one of their favorite tactics. If you have a formidable opponent: "delegitimize" them; because Kamala has been so thoroughly vetted, this is really all they have: bring her identity into question.
2/We know Trump, The GOP, and Russia used this tactic against Obama with their racist birther conspiracy. They wanted to "delegitimize" Obama's entire Presidency. As Toni Morrision said, "The function, the very serious function of racism is distraction." “The function, the very serious function of racism is dist
3/Russia/GOP know the US has been a powder keg around discussions of race & are using that to their advantage; many of our country's racist policies (slavery, 3/5 compromise, miscegenation laws) have long attempted to define our humanity, Blackness, &representation w/o our input. “The three-fifths clause (Article I, Section 2, of the U.S

1/The way this article talks about Rep. Karen Bass and Senator Kamala Harris is incredibly problematic. The press and @JoeBiden's team are falling back on old stereotypes of Black women. I am incredibly distraught by this. cnn.com/2020/07/31/pol…
2/Painting Rep. Bass as "humble", "safe", won't "rock the boat," reinforces the idea that Bass will "stay her lane" do the work Joe asks her without having her own voice. She's to be seen, not heard. That's a stereotype placed on Black women.
3/Kamala Harris is getting almost all of the stereotypes: from "too ambitious" to "can rub some people the wrong way" (e.g. "too aggressive"). These white men (and women) don't seem to know (or care) that they're perpetuating old destructive tropes of Black Women, but they are. “My mentors talk to me about dimming my light” It’s nHow Black Women Describe Navigating Race and Gender in the W

1/One reason why Dems could lose this Fall vs. GOP: Old school Dems running for office are incredibly risk-averse. They're by the book all of the time, from fundraisers to interviews. The GOP? Not risk-averse at all. They'll spout bigotry as they keep your name off the voter roll
2/Republicans swing for the fences. They spend time studying how to stack, crack, and pack voters, how to 'legally' purge voters, and they speak in bumper sticker while using & harming their base. Dem should never emulate the GOP. However, Dems need to level w/us.
3/Dems (and the media) need to discuss the obstacles BIPOC voters are going to face this #2020election from voter suppression to "The enthusiasm problem." A poll today said Latinx voters prefer Trump by 32%. While Biden # is 2x that, it's still not great. washingtonpost.com/opinions/2020/…
