The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced new representation standards that movies will be required to meet in order to be eligible for Best Picture. (1/4) Image
The Academy says its new standards are 'designed to encourage equitable representation on and off screen in order to better reflect the diversity of the movie-going audience.' (2/4)
In order to be eligible, a film must meet inclusion standards by fulfilling two of the following four criteria:

'On screen representation, themes, and narratives'
'Creative leadership and project team'
'Industry access and opportunities'
'Audience development'

Further details about each of those 4 criteria are available at Oscars.org. The new policy, which goes into effect for the 96th Oscars in 2024, comes 5 years after the original #OscarsSoWhite controversy. (4/4)

NASA has revealed a new ‘postcard’ from Mars rover Curiosity and already, it has astounded researchers by capturing the Martian landscape and skies. Scientists say it offers a unique glimpse into the varying conditions of the red planet throughout the day.
According to NASA's news release, Curiosity, which has been exploring Mars since August 2012, utilized its black-and-white navigation cameras on April 8, 2023, to take images during the morning and afternoon.
These images were then transmitted back to Earth for analysis by the research team, where color was then added.
