I LOVE these parent quotes!!

“Hi Superstar 2nd grade teachers 🙂I just want to say thanks for all of your efforts to make the first few days for the kiddos a success.  I can’t imagine how challenging this must be for you!!...”
1/
“I was just thinking how grateful I am to FCPS, CPES, and the teachers as K and 2nd are going so well! ... Thanks to you and your staff for all of the hard work you put in - I see it paying off!”
2/
“My kids are doing well so far. I’m SUPER impressed with 1st grade... All in all, it’s been a successful 2 days!” 3/
“ I literally cannot believe the feats that you pulled off today. Alone reading, growth mindset with that cute paper crumple, and finally, that you got [s] to share his screen and you troubleshooted the problem...
4/
That was singularly the best example of patience and confidence in teaching that I could ever have witnessed.

Thank you for working so hard with these kids. Thank you for your patience. Thank you for taking their questions even when they aren’t supposed to be asking them...
And, of course, thank you for explaining everything a million trillion times until every kid is on the same page.”

6/
“Just a quick note to say you knocked it out of the park today!! I was so impressed!!

The screen breaks, movement breaks, and general flow of the day all worked really well from my perspective as a parent. I was WAY less hands on than I expected to be.
7/
I felt like all the directions/expectations were clear, things were explained really well, and the kids were engaged.

Thank you for your calm, approachable, and fun way with the kids.”

What to Expect When You're Expecting to Learn Virtually: The First Two Weeks
(A Guide for Parents and Students)

There’s no question we are diving into a different way of learning soon, which might bring on nerves or even apprehension for what’s to come. Here’s a look ahead 1/
with tips to let you know what you can expect the first two weeks of #ConnectedLearning at Cunningham Park. When we all know what’s going to happen, then we’ll all be ready for a great start! 2/
Every day, set the stage for a full day of learning.  Students, this is your job.  Just like adults have jobs we take seriously and do our best, school and learning is your job.  Be ready!  (By the way, grown-up jobs are fun for us too - we laugh a lot while we work, 3/

Hey parents, our choice is two days away. Listen, ALL the choices we’ve had to make since we’ve had children have been like 100% harder than pre-kid because there are young beings involved now. Look how well you’ve done so far! Your kiddos are great! And here’s the what 1/
No matter the choice you make, your children are going to grow. They will grow in realizing there is more than one way to learn. They will grow in understanding what’s right for one person might be different than for another person, and that’s totally fine. 2/
They’ll grow because no matter what choice you make, you are amazing parents, and you will NOT let it turn into a catastrophe. You won’t. You haven’t yet, and you won’t now. You have a stellar staff of teachers and specialists working with you. And we are committed. 3/

Morning! I wondered if we could talk parent to parent for a min. Or caregiver to caregiver? B/c we’re kind of going through the same thing here, just in our own ways. Idk about you, but I’m finding that, as if the world wasn’t hard enough to guide our young ones through, 1/
it’s getting to where you can’t look left, right, or straight ahead anymore without running into more bad news. And it’s one thing to navigate and try to make sense of it all for ourselves, but we’ve got children, spouses, extended families, and more in tow. 2/
Take my dinner last night, for ex. My 16yo, through tears, shared her thoughts about George Floyd. Now, with me not having a background in counseling, I thought the only thing I could think, “What would @LisaLujanCPESC1 (our school counselor) do?” Seriously. 3/

An open letter to CPES staff,

Some refer to this time period as the “New Normal.” We argue that term is inaccurate and should not be used. There is nothing normal about this situation. In fact, the only thing we know for sure is that one day, somehow, somewhere, it will end. 1
A fact that proves this is not normal and shouldn’t be considered that way. 2/
We, friends, are still in a crisis situation. “Extended crisis” if you prefer. Here’s why what we call this period is important - because we are responding in crisis mode, which takes effort, energy, and sustenance not required when things are normal. 3/

Loved Socratic Seminar w/ 3rd graders on “I, Too” by Langston Hughes. A summary: we start w/ the question we ended w/ last week, “Can *we* change the world?” Ss 1st responses, “We can change how it looks.” “But that doesn’t change what it is, on the inside, it stays the same.” 1/
Ss read “I, Too” and type q’s in the chat. “Why eat in the kitchen?” “Who is he laughing with?” “What does Langston mean when he says ‘I, too, sing America?’” “Who is Langston Hughes?” and more 2/
Opening q: Who is Langston Hughes? We read the back cover of his poetry to discover he brought a “renaissance” to black writers, focusing on, among others, “invisible men and women.” 3/

Friends, as we wind down Teacher Appreciation Week, may I share with you a little about the staff who work with your children? They are teachers, ALL of them. They stood outside our front doors through varying March/April weather to feed the community. 1/
They came to the school on a Sunday just as schools were closing down to work alongside volunteer parents to ready books and materials to send home with children. They clean the school building with pride until the floors gleam, fit to be their own homes. 2/
Your child’s teachers learned THREE new technology platforms in as many weeks to be able to come face to face with your child. Years ago, they planted a community garden that thrived even through summer, when school wasn’t in session. 3/
