Sudarshan News' one-hour-long offensive against Indian Muslims last night violated at least 5 of fifteen Cable Television Networks Rules.

We didn't spot any Amul ads on the show, which means the company heard many of us who appealed to them to withdraw.
newslaundry.com/2020/09/12/no-…
Bad news is that @myogiadityanath's government continues to spend the taxpayers' money to poison the airwaves.

"At multiple points in the show, Chavanke used cartoons with big beards, crooked noses and skull caps to represent Muslims," notes @sighyush.
So while Amul stayed away from the show, an elected government did not.

UP govt ad featuring CM Ajay Bisht (Yogi Adityanath) showed up soon after the segment concluded. What does this say about a government elected in a state where every fifth citizen is a Muslim?
News consumers must question/shame @UPGovt for using tax-payers money to demonise Indian citizens & flare communal passions.

It's a long hard battle to get brands and govts to stop making hate profitable but it's the only way ahead. They are ones that keep the show running.

After @TejinderSsodhi's resignation, I spoke to several former employees of Republic to know of their experiences in the organisation.

Here's what they had to say.
newslaundry.com/2020/09/07/its…
A common theme that emerged from our conversations with former Republic TV employees is the emphasis on sting operations.

A senior anchor, who now works with a mainstream English channel, told me that there are instructions given to 'wire up and meet your sources'.
"...Just imagine what young journalism graduates are being taught there: basically that it’s okay to throw your source under the bus, secretly tape them and reveal their identity even if they don’t want you to do that.”

Heartening media story on how journalists in Tamil Nadu built pressure over the last two weeks and forced the administration to take action against officials at the Sathankulam police station.

#JusticeForJayarajandBennicks

newslaundry.com/2020/07/02/tho…
Media reports in Tamil Nadu emphatically stated that the custodial deaths should not go unpunished, and that the deaths must not be attributed to suicide, health issues, or natural causes. News organisations remained vocal in their condemnation of the police.
While the print media condemned the deaths through their editorials, the broadcast media took the issue directly to its audiences. Every single news channel covered the deaths extensively, including primetime debates on police brutality.

A source close to the PLA told the South China Morning Post “that Beijing was ‘very sensitive’ about military casualties, saying all numbers had to be approved by President Xi Jinping before being released”

Interesting piece by Shweta Desai (@BeingBum).

When the first visuals of the bloody brawl in Ladakh emerged on Weibo, a user posting the video noted that the Chinese media does not report such news because China usually wins conflicts with India.
When a narrative has been painstakingly built that India does not figure in the larger gameplan of China and it has no military or economic capacity to hurt China, the death of even a single PLA soldier is damaging to its posturing as a superior military power.

Migrant from Assam in Mumbai falsifying migrant distress in the city on the day when scores had gathered outside #BandraStation

His office is about 20 minutes from where they had gathered but he still couldn't report on the issue, instead fed us conspiracies

Thread 👇🏼
Not just Arnab, on the same night, top anchors across channels chose not to report accurately on why migrants had gathered outside Bandra depot.

Check this thread out:
Keywords they used: 'Saazish', 'masjid', 'instigated', 'mob', 'CAA', and ya even 'Shaheen Bagh'.

The goal was to tell their viewers that these were not migrants in distress wanting to go back home, this was an anti-Modi, politically-motivated mob that wanted chaos.

"In the four days I have spent in North East Delhi, I have seen Hindus and Muslims stand side-by-side and proclaim mutual love and trust. But if you take them into a corner and poke in the right places, the suspicion pours out."

@sighyush's ground report.
newslaundry.com/2020/03/02/ben…
@sighyush Aas Mohammad, 36, is now known as the 'Tahir Hussain' of his locality. He lives in the Hindu-dominated Bhagirathi Vihar in North East Delhi. On the night of February 25, a Muslim mob of 25-30 men occupied his house.
@sighyush They were on the terrace for 3 hrs, pelting stones at the neighbouring homes of the Hindus.

Aas is now desperately trying to fend off allegations of communalism from his neighbours. It hurts more because his neighbours won’t say it to his face; they imply it in their questions.

"Mulle media banke aaye hai. Maaron salon ko. Media waale hai [Muslims have come here disguised as journalists. Beat them up!]"

@sighyush At the Maujpur-Babarpur metro station, Hanuman Chalisa blared from speakers as men armed with sticks and rods stood by and chanted religious slogans. A senior CAPF officer, learning that we were from the media, told us to not meddle with this crowd. “Take the opposite road."
@sighyush In Babarpur, men of all ages congregated confidently outside bylanes, brandishing sticks and rods. Boys as young as 10, wielding rods, accompanied them. There were very few women.
