I debated a lot whether to put up this post. But this being the #SuicidePrevention month, I thought I should put it up while protecting the identity of the person concerned. I got this message on FB yesterday. For those who don’t understand Marathi the message says -“I had 1/5
decided to put an end to my life yesterday. It’s not that I am a loser but I was tired of the treatment I was getting at home. I was set to commit the act. I thought I would listen to one song before I took the final step. Coincidentally it was your song that was playing 2/5
on @YouTube. The song was #Parwardigar from the movie Balgandharva. I am an electrical engineer in charge of building an operation theatre. Your song brought me back and I wanted you to know it.”
I have always maintained that music goes beyond entertainment, but here it 3/5
actually stood between life and death. Dear @swanandkirkire your words and dear @Shankar_Live your voice brought a man brought from the brink of death. No award, no accolade, no praise matches this satisfaction. 4/5
Those out there who think that there is nobody for them in this world, please remember that music is always there for you.
@subodhbhave @meranamravi you are equal partners in this song and I thank you for being there in form of your art. 5/5

Let me tell you the story of the Rishi who found a mouse and turned her into a girl. When the girl came of age he tried to get her married to the sun, but she felt he was to angry. He tried to get her married to the wind but he was too strong for her.
He tried to get her married to the mountain but she found him too still. But as they were climbing down the mountain she saw the king of mice running around the foothills. She fell in love with his playfulness and asked to be married off to him.
The Rishi smiled at the play of destiny and turned the girl back into a mouse.
Now let me retell this story to you in the modern context.
When I started off as a young composer, people were still recording on analogue equipment and digital was just making an entry.

A long thread on creativity, its temporary absence and how to deal with it.
I don’t know how frogs hibernate. But an artist in hibernation is not pleasant business. The writers have a pretty name for it - writer’s block.
What a glamorous name for something messes with you completely! A musician doesn’t even have a pretty name for it. It is just a time when you can’t think.

When creative juices are in full flow, you are sort of heady and yet your level of alertness is extremely high.
Things come to you. Even a routine incident inspires a song within you. Nothing is more intoxicating than the spring of creativity.

The ebb doesn’t come all of a sudden. It comes in with the silent slither of a python and wraps around you with its slimy cold nothingness.

When I was in college, I had to answer a question on the difference between science and religion for a course known as the Foundation Course (FC - I don’t know if they still have it). The tilt of the text books was naturally biased toward science. My proclivity towards
Aristotelian logic made me biased towards science too and at that time I was an avowed atheist. As an answer to the above question I wrote all that was expected of me but as the last point I wrote something that was my own thought. I wrote - “Ultimately science and religion are
both instruments of war. Science provides the means, religion provides the motives.” My professor read out my answer in class and said to me, “you have just realised that there are answers beyond text books. I am not saying you’re right but I can say that you are on your way.”

Let me try and give as much as a neutral review about ‘Tashkent Files’ as possible. First, congratulations to @vivekagnihotri for making this film because to make a film that questions a narrative by the establishment in itself is a brave thing to do. Also I understand how tricky
it must have been to weave this into a story. It is like walking a tightrope when you have to write a screenplay mixing the historical truth with contemporary fiction. So, when India Today review says that the film is most insightful when it doesn’t intend to be is a stupid
observation, because if @vivekagnihotri has put the dialogue in the script he knows that he has put it there. It is actually his way to either be or appear balanced. Most reviews insinuate that the film shouldn’t have been made because it declares at the end that veracity

As Urmila Matondkar enters politics, here is a little trivia. First, I wish Urmila all the best for her foray into electoral politics.
One of the reasons I am in this field is Urmila Matondkar.
I was in my first year BA, confused if I should appear for civil+
services examinations or enter the field of journalism. On and off I did some mimicry skits (what people call stand up comedy now - only funnier!) one of my English professors saw my act and asked me to act in an English one act play. Urmila was one year senior to me & a student+
+ of the English department. She was also an accomplished actor at the time due to her debut in Masoom and Narsimha by N. Chandra just released or about to release.
I was nervous because I would be acting in a play for the first time. I was playing 6 characters of varying age+
