106 out of 121 newsroom leadership positions are occupied by Brahmin-Savarnas. At entry-level, mid-senior level jobs also you will find only Brahmin-Savarnas. The so-called alternative, independent media ventures like Scroll, Wire, the Print, Newslaundry, Quint 1/6
News Minute, Caravan etc are also run by Savarnas. Publishing houses like Penguin, Rupa, HarperCollins, Roli, Juggernaut, Aleph have mostly Brahmin-Savarnas as their editors. Facebook India and Twitter India's bias against SC/ST/OBC pages, accounts and their discourse is well 2/6
known. Facebook & Twitter routinely muzzle/censor Bahujan voices. The dominance/over-representation of Brahmin-Savarnas in NGOs, academia, judiciary, bureaucracy is well documented. Now, despite all of this, when a Bahujan says that so-called ODCs (other dominance castes) 3/6
are hogging the spaces of SC/STs, which landscape they are exactly talking about? If the so-called ODCs are to be blamed for snatching away the space that is rightfully meant for SC/STs, then we need to 1. Clearly define/identify the "spaces/platforms" that belong to SC/STs 4/6
2. Quantity how much of space has been unfairly appropriated by the so-called ODCs. If one is not able to answer these questions, then the claims about the so-called ODCs occupying SC/ST spaces can be termed as hearsay that originated/invented in Brahmanical academic 5/6
circles. The picture attached in the first tweet perfectly depicts the Indian social system. If the SC/STs have crumbs of a cookie, the so-called ODCs have one whole cookie, then the question that needs to be asked is "who has the rest of 99 cookies?" 6/6

Caste system, Hindusim, and public hygiene. A 🧵

Large piles of garbage lying everywhere, the terrible condition of public toilets, and open defection are some of the hallmarks of Indian cities and semi-urban towns. Indians have a terrible attitude toward public hygiene 1/
& the reason is the way the caste system influences people's behaviour. Research by Michael Geruso & Dean Spears shows that Muslims have a lower infant mortality rate compared to Hindus as the latter have a low rate of latrine use due to differences in "religious beliefs". 2/
The Hindu population is 25% more likely to defecate in the open than the Muslim population. And why is that? It is because for Hindus, cleaning after themselves is out of the question due to their weird fixation with the idea of "purity". 3/

Do not trust or make heroes out of ppl resigning from Indian "Radio Rwanda" Republic TV. No sane person or anyone who had an iota of idea about Arnab, Rajeev Chandrasekhar and the ideology they represent would have joined that genocide-enabler circus in the first place 1/6
The ppl who R resigning now are claiming to have found their moral compass due to the coverage they were FORCED to do during SSR-Rhea controversy. Remember, Republic Tv was founded in 2017 & has done much worse things since its inception. From day one Arnab and the channel 2/6
have been spreading fake news, communalising the society, intruding into people's privacy, and strengthening the Brahmanical discourse. Even before Arnab started Republic, he was no saint (do ppl have collective amnesia?) He has been a vile bigot for better part of his career 3/6

If #Brahmins are proud of their past, then own up to this 👉 "French anthropologist Jean-Claude Galey encountered in a region of eastern Himalayas the low-ranking castes in a situation of permanent debt dependency....It was common practice, Galey explains, for high-caste 1/5
moneylenders to demand one of the borrower's daughters as security. Often, when a poor man had to borrow money for his daughter's marriage, the security would be the bride herself. She would be expected to report to the lender's household after her wedding night, 2/5
spend a few months there as his concubine, and then, once he grew bored, be sent off to some nearby timber where she would have to spend the next year or two as camp, a prostitute working off her father's debt.

Priyanka Chopra is an epitome of opportunism and cowardice. In her recent Insta post, she appeals people to end race war in US and educate themselves on race issue. She says no one deserves to die because of their skin color. She stands in support of George Floyd's family. 1/5
The last time I checked Priyanka still holds Indian Passport. What makes her comment on the African-American struggle but not on Bahujan movement? Where does the empathy and support of Priyanka and US migrated Savarnas go when it comes Bahujan resistance movement? 2/5
Priyanka didn't raise voice on the Delhi pogrom, Akhlaq lynching, Rohit Vemula murder, Najeeb Ahmed etc. The only reason the likes of Priyanka show support to Afro-American struggle in US is cause they know it opens up opportunities for them in US liberal spaces. 3/5

Savarna-Brahmin 'merit', their mediocrity and plagiarism. Thread.

Y'day, Indian Express withdrew researcher & former member of PM’s Economic Advisory Council Shamika Ravi's piece after allegations of plagiarism. Shamika copied calculations from Karthik Muralidharan's work 1/6
She also lifted sentences verbatim from Paul Romer's piece. Ironically, Shamika doesn't shy away from calling herself India's most trusted "COVID calculator". A few days ago Marathi daily Loksatta's Brahmin editor Girish Kuber was caught red-handed for plagiarising verbatim 2/6
from scholar Andrew Lilico's blog. In the past, Kuber stole from Govind Talwalkar's article on Charles Dickens published in Saadhana. Proud Gaud Saraswat Brahmin journo Rajdeep Sardesai routinely copies tweets from other handles and has been called out from time to time 3/6
