Suspect was subdued by a security guard, held for 5 mins on the floor, and had suspect calm. Then the @LAPDHollywood screwed everything up & got humiliated —leading to this.
Thread of incident (1/?)
Suspect jumped a counter in a fast food restaurant and stole some cell phones. Helicopters in air searching, so may have been a search for him.
Suspect runs through parking lot, with restaurant owners *chasing with poles*.
Store owners corner suspect in fast food restaurant. It was at this point a brave security guard from another store got involved.
Clearly the suspect seems to be on something. What a site to see:
It was at this point the suspect *punched security guard in face* and attempted to flea. With one motion, security guard takes suspect to ground and subdued him.
Then, he does what cops rarely do: he *deescalates* by calming the suspect.
This is amazing work!
He kept the suspect calm for over 2 more mins.
But then the @LAPDHollywood comes in and screws everything up....
Notice the lack of urgency. Notice how the one cop is annoyed with the lunkhead to the right.
Again, no urgency. And it comes back to bite them. ....
The blond cop is totally obsessed with getting his gloves on. And his unwillingness to engage without gloves causes them to lose the fight.
And the suspect is GONE.
How does a 160 lbs guy get away from two 200+ lb officers?
What a damn embarrassment. A closer look explains...
Blond cop doesn’t want to *touch* the suspect w/bare hands.
His partner struggling to hold on, & the blond cop reaches for black glove (mistake) letting his guard down & gets kicked in balls.
Watch his left hand throughout fight. Chooses to hold glove instead of suspect.
Smh:
Lucky for the cops, the security guard grabbed suspect with *one hand* around neck, & put suspect against wall.
Beaten, exhausted & humiliated, @LAPDHollywood cops tells guard to move so can hit suspect w/taser.
Sadly, cop had to tell blond cop to cuff suspect.
Awful training.
Story here: a lone security guard was able to detain and de-escalate, while an incompetent @LAPDHollywood cop caused the situation to spiral out-of-control leading to escalation.
Let’s defund the #LAPD by $3B, and instead give this security guard $1B and save $2B.
