Staying in the NCCF family house was a product of garnished programmes and varieties as well as the interdenominational acceptance of Christians across the country.
Sebi you remembered that I said cooking almost landed me in trouble in the previous episode, it wasn't funny at all.
There was an evening that we were to make Eba and fry fish. I picked frying of fish because of the obvious benefit of keeping my mouth busy afterwards, not knowing that danger looms.
After setting the fire and putting vegetable oil into the pot, I realised that the fishes had not been salted so I decided to pick the salt cup from the cabinet in the main kitchen.
As I was leaving, my leg hit the firewood and that made the hot pot and oil lose their balance. Unfortunately, the oil spilled and touch two persons in the kitchen and while they were moaning in pains, they poured away the fishes to be fried.
I quickly touched my leg in pretence that I was also injured by the spilled hot oil. So I enjoyed the treatment and pity given to others without anyone blaming me.
Meanwhile, some programmes of the house were very fascinating. Most especially, Varieties Night which gives the opportunity to show talents. Apart from being a comedian, I was part of the WAKA NEWS CREW.
Waka News served the role of broadcasting house matters by secretly sneaking in on NCCF house members and exposing the unthinkables about them on issues like dating, malice, welfare issues and the likes.
David Otuya known as Sub-Marine was the Chief broadcaster. The waka news adopted pidgin English and usually used tension soaked headlines with funny news stories.
I met Goriola Adio, a graduate of Systems Engineering from UNILAG and a guru in Chess and Scrabble. I owe him for teaching me both and for exposing me to technical areas on laptop usage.
The most enjoyable moment of my stay in NCCF family house was Christmas and new year celebrations. I overchop. Even food know say I chop am.
One of my PPA was St John of God Secondary school, Awka. It consisted of girls only. Uhmn. My eyes saw a lot. May we not fall into temptation.
Let's do this next week.
Follow me on Twitter via @prof_luwabi and I will follow back.
Completing the service year and getting back home wasn't so easy. I came from a home where neighbours are SEE FINISH. So it wasn't a matter of negotiation for me to know that I wasn't returning home to my parents after Ajuwaya
Not like I didn't try to. I did but got my fingers burnt. Young chaps in the streets were often referred to see me for their difficult home works. One young girl nearly rubbished my degree when she brought WORD PROBLEM mathematics assignment. It was really a problem.
It was my batch of NYSC that was deployed to conduct voter's registration and the eventual elections of 2011. It didn't come so easily.
We were asked to converge at the Awka South local government office in Amawbia for briefing. I was to arrive earlier than others to set the public address system as soon as I got to the venue and was alighting from the motorcycle, my NYSC trouser tore disgracefully.
St John of God Sec School, Awka is girls school. I was asked to teach Literature in English, a whole Sociology graduate. Sebi it's NYSC. Mo ya gba kamu.
My lecture days were Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays. Wednesdays and Thursdays were my other PPAs and CDS. I also taught in the Prisons as Government, Commerce and Literature tutor.
Despite having some issues with my documentation at the NYSC office which would mean that I wouldn't get my 9,775 for two months, I still felt like leaving the NCCF state house because of strict rules or else...
Won ti keran mero (they have parked incompartible entities together). I set out to look for an apartment because I had about 20k in my account plus my first allawee, transport and bicycle allowances given on camp. I was good to go.
I was posted to Awka south, the capital of Anambra state. The mood before dismantling OBS gadgets after the parade at the camp was very emotional. Several bonds were broken with hugs and kisses.
People were posted to pitiable places like Ayamelum, Awka North, Njikoka, Orumba North and South, and a few other places. Tears were rolling like water from fish pond.
