Yesterday, GPUSA and hundreds of Wet’suwet’en frontline and solidarity activists organizing against Coastal GasLink pipeline were blocked from @Facebook due to a May 7 event targeting @KKR_Co, major pipeline funder -- project opposed by all of the Wet’suwet’en Hereditary Chiefs.
Some accounts have been reinstated after many demands of @Facebook, but many remain blocked from using the platform. The social media giant has not explained why this happened on such a large scale or why we’ve been targeted. We want action and answers now.
When the ban started, Facebook claimed activists violated its Terms of Service around intellectual property guidelines and accounts would be blocked for 3 days. Here is what we know:
There was an online action planned for 9/21 against KKR’s funding of Coastal GasLink pipeline. Not having access to Facebook hindered our organizing. KKR have not responded to over 230,000 emails they received demanding they stop funding Coastal GasLink
We demand to know if @KKR_Co instigated this targeted mass banning by filing an unfounded IP complaint about the 5/7 event, and what process @Facebook used to validate the claim. Facebook functionally enabled mass censorship of hundreds of voices. We want action and answers now.
What’s next? An official complaint will be sent to Facebook demanding answers. In the meantime, please message or tweet at @KKR_Co now and demand they respect Indigenous Rights by divesting from the Coastal GasLink pipeline project now. actionnetwork.org/letters/messag…#ShutDownKKR
Corps like @Facebook shouldn’t have power to silence activists based on unsubstantiated claims from fossil fuel companies & funders. If this is what happened, it is yet another dangerous and unacceptable example of a corporation wielding unchecked power over popular movements.
And - remember that although these corporations, like @Facebook and @KKR_Co, can try to ban and silence individuals, this movement is too powerful to stop! #WetsuwetenStrong#ShutDownKKR

We’re being sued by Big Oil @EnergyTransfer for $300 million. It’s an abusive lawsuit designed to end Greenpeace’s 50-year legacy of environmental activism. But it’s not just a threat to our existence. Learn more:
@EnergyTransfer Energy Transfer built the infamous Dakota Access Pipeline. You’ll remember that in 2016, Indigenous organizers led one of the most powerful protests in modern history at Standing Rock. #NoDAPL
@EnergyTransfer Now ET claims it was all Greenpeace’s doing!? It’d be laughable if it weren’t a lie and racist attempt to erase Indigenous leadership in North Dakota.
For years, Big Oil has attacked @GreenpeaceUSA with Strategic Lawsuits Against Public Participation (SLAPPs) — frivolous lawsuits designed to shut us up, shut us down, and strip away our First Amendment right to free speech.
Right now, @GreenpeaceUSA is being sued by multiple companies — including the company behind the Dakota Access Pipeline — which are collectively seeking more than $400 million in total damages. It’s a genuine threat to Greenpeace USA’s existence.

Why are we here? Only 100 companies are responsible for 71% of global carbon emissions since 1988. #PeopleVsOil (1/7)
Many of the refineries here are operated by some of those very companies, like ExxonMobil, BP, Chevron, and Shell. #PeoplevsOil (2/7) bit.ly/2ue11eC
This is the largest petrochemical complex in the US, and the 2nd largest in the world. These facilities aren't only fueling the #ClimateCrisis, they're also threatening the health and lives... (3/7)
(1) So why did we bring these swamp creatures to David Bernhardt's confirmation hearing for Interior Secretary this morning? Well... Bernhardt is a former oil and gas lobbyist who previously worked to help corporate polluters get their hands on public lands.
(2) Now he's about to become head of the Interior Department — which would put him in charge of the very same public lands and waters that he worked to get access to as an oil & gas lobbyist.
(3) Trump campaigned hard on the idea of “draining the swamp”. As we know, he's done the exact opposite — and Bernhardt might be the most blatant example of that. bit.ly/2TFZPKf
