📍FAUCI SAYS THE CORONAVIRUS IS AIRBORNE—it’s not official until the Fauci sings. And Dr Fauci has come out strongly:

“Bottomline, there’s much more aerosol 💨 than we thought”. #COVID19

Moreover, #SARSCoV2 also found in:

📌Stool
📌Blood
📌Semen
📌Eye secretions

➡️ Thread🧵
2) We are also certain that masks reduce aerosol airborne transmission—older June article below. But the new revelation by Fauci is that bigger particles >5 microns (traditionally “droplets” also stay in air long time). Hence why virus is more airborne. science.sciencemag.org/content/368/64…
3) And there is quite a bit of evidence built up on aerosols vs large droplets that usually get gravity pulled down and fomites (surface contact transmission).
4) So what does this mean? Ventilation & masks to start. But 6 feet rule still important even with masks/vent, because aerosol plume is more concentrated short range, even if aerosol can transmit both short & long. Figure by @ShellyMBoulder. Indoors, we really need to ventilate.
5) How else to visualize the difference? Aerosols can stay in the air for many hours depending on ventilation. Typical air exchange every 20 min to 4 hrs.
6) And this is how masks are important. Watch the aerosols under laser night light with and without masks.
7) But once a droplet or particle lands on something, it can maybe also be picked back up into the air too. A recent study that show fomites (infectious particles on a surface) can also *become* aerosolized. Details in earlier thread🧵 on aerosolized fomites.
8) How do you quickly ventilate a room! There are many right and wrong ways. This video explains what is truly needed to clear a room with fresh air. Note it was made by Japanese researchers who recognized the coronavirus was airborne long ago. #COVID19
9) Also, don’t hate the messenger—but tissue paper w/ influenza can also be aerosolized. “We further demonstrate that aerosolized fomites can be generated from inanimate objects, such as by manually rubbing a paper tissue contaminated w/ influenza virus.” nature.com/articles/s4146…
10) And they go on: “During #COVID19 pandemic in China, air sampling in various hospitals found the highest airborne genome counts of #SARSCoV2 in rooms where health care workers doffed their PPE, hinting that virus was possibly being aerosolized where clothing being removed” ⚠️
11) To be clear — the coronavirus is MOST DEFINITELY aerosol & airborne. Long thread 🧵 detailing 🏔of evidence and reasons why & how we know. If anyone doubts and wants to see more studies. - use this 🧵 below as an explainer👇 (note it was written before weird CDC retraction).
12) And yes, Dr Fauci mentioned semen fluid having infectious virus. This has been known for a few months. There is also mention of “privileged immunity of the testes” being shielded from rest of body. Wont spoil anyone’s day here—read thread 🧵 below to get the scoop.
13) FECAL AEROSOLS—We already test wastewater for the coronavirus, so what about fecal aerosols? And yes, there is a study that suggests “fecal aerosol transmission may have caused the community outbreak of COVID-19 in high-rise building” via septic pipes.
ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/P…
14) Toilet plume—I don’t want to beat poop too much, but:

Flushing the Toilet May Fling Coronavirus Aerosols All Over

A new study shows how turbulence from a toilet bowl can create large plume that is potentially infectious to a bathroom’s next visitor.
google.com/amp/s/www.nyti…
15) My other worry is that US don’t have a toilet lid (it’s weird), and often bathrooms are poorly ventilated. So even if you enter a bathroom alone, you never know what plume someone left in the air before you. I think wearing premium mask good precaution for public restrooms.
16) Bathrooms are a bigger issue than people realize. There was another case of a Korean woman who carefully wore an N95 mask on a plane entire time *except when using the ✈️ bathroom 🚽*—and then contracted the coronavirus. Assuming she handwashed, it suggests aerosol.
17) Speaking of airplanes, there are now many other transmission cases. First documented one involved a man who wore a mask, but let the mask SLIP UNDER HIS NOSE... and then caught #COVID19 from his neighbors across the aisle. It’s a tricky virus.
18) BOTTOMLINE: What we should remember is AEROSOL being airborne completely changes #COVID19 infection prevention. 6 feet insufficient. Indoors avoid any other groups, ventilate, HEPA filtrate (MERV13 or better), consider premium masks if others not wearing, & careful bathrooms!
19) Important followup: with ventilation, indoor vs outdoor, speaking volume, mask and contact duration—here is how to piece it together in LOW MEDIUM HIGH risk. It’s not precise but good rule of thumb. HT to @trishgreenhalgh and her team for putting it out.

⚠️NO RARE BEEF!—@USDA suddenly admits (after Q&A pestering) that 120F cooked beef🥩patties experimentally inoculated with H5N1 virus still had surviving virus.

➡️“Cooking to… 120° F did show that there was virus still in the cooked hamburger patty, although at reduced levels." Image
2) Initially the @USDA only stated that no virus survived cooking to 160 F and 145 F. But they didn’t volunteer the 120 F rare cooking temperature results! Only after more questioning did they reveal 120 F virus survival. But so many folks eat rare meat! 🥩 DISCLOSURE CRITICAL!
3) here was the initial USDA press conference announcement. Made no mention of the results for virus levels in beef at lower temperatures.

Dear Raw Milk drinkers— behold your future:

“West Virginia politician falls ill due to drinking unpasteurized milk after helping pass a law that legalized raw milk.”

The FDA has completely dropped the ball on stopping raw milk trade.

UPDATE—Solar Storm hits the highest level of G5, the first in over 2 decade, which could knock out power to grids and disrupt GPS. A coronal mass ejection of G5 was also what the infamous “Carrington Event” was in 1859. But it depends on magnetic 🧲 polarity of each CME wave. NOAA warned earlier today that CME storms tend to be even stronger on the latter half of a storm wave. Let’s hope the next two days won’t be as extreme as the Carrington Event. #solarstormImage
Image
2) the CME does create super gorgeous auroras.
3) We are potentially in for a wild weekend. We haven’t been hit with this many CMEs in a long ass time. Nor has NOAA alerted with a GEOMAGNETIC STORM WATCH in over 20 years.

⚡️INBOUND SOLAR STORMS—5x mega coronal mass ejections - CMEs - that can knock out power are going to be slamming at Earth 🌍 between Friday and Sunday this weekend. Earth has only been hit with 3 previous severe CMEs in last 4 years. But we are gonna get 5x G4 CMEs in 3 days!😳 Image
2) Let this sink — this is the first GEOMAGNETIC STORM WATCH since 2005!

Folks - this is serious - it can knock out not only electricity but it can theoretically knock out airplanes ✈️ too! Image
3) Folks- it’s possible. Not only can it cause higher radiation and knock out communications, but a strong CME can knock out airliner avionics. “according to reports by aviation regulators, the issue is not whether it will happen, but when” 😳 thedailybeast.com/how-a-solar-st…

Things are not going well with whooping cough (pertussis). Childhood vaccinations plummeting in the UK 🇬🇧, and kids also have weakened immune systems post-COVID. And it’s not even autumn 🍂.

HT @1goodtern Image
2) Also… let’s not forget the “m” word. Because masks do work if society takes it seriously.
3) unless we systematically solve the. chronic lack of public health infrastructure, new outbreaks will continue. We shouldn’t just learn to live with it.

⚠️New sudden outbreak of MERS coronavirus with HUMAN TO HUMAN transmission—WHO has put out an outbreak bulletin regarding 3 cases in Saudi Arabia 🇸🇦 who contracted MERS (with zero contact with camels). All 3 were hospitalized and intubated. Index case has died in just 11 days from the onset of cough and a runny nose. ➡️Here where it gets interesting—the other 2 cases, found via vigorous contact tracing—both likely contracted it from the index case in the hospital—one shared a hospital room with the index case, while the other merely visited the same hospital’s ER—but he was NOT in the same hospital ward as the index case! Given second case was in a completely separate ward of the hospital, it makes me think it was likely #airborne transmission.

Shouldn’t we all masking in hospitals? @CDCgov’s idiotic HICPAC committee that sets hospital safety standards meantime wants to water them down. Someone should share this with the HICPAC folks, thanks. And demand @CDCDirector to get serious about public health again.

2) previously, WHO’s Feb bulletin of Aug 2023-Feb 2024 only reported 4 cases, 2 had camel🐪 contact. None of the previous 4 had any linkages (ie no human to human transmission evidence). Thus, this new hospital-derived outbreak is concerning.
who.int/emergencies/di…
3) it seems the Index case’s only overlap with Case #3 was on April 4th— the day they both went to the same hospital’s ER. But otherwise they were in different wards. And by the time the 3rd case went to the ICU on April 15th, the index case was already dead (died on April 11th). So it wasn’t ICU exposure. It was the ER—➡️why which why EVERYONE NEEDS TO WEAR MASKS IN THE ER DAMNIT! 🔥Image
