"I regret my error of judgment in not wearing a mask during the ceremony and by shaking hands with a number of people in the Rose Garden." Image
#MORE: Jenkins continues: "I failed to lead by example, at a time when I’ve asked everyone else in the Notre Dame community to do so."
#MORE Jenkins continues: "I especially regret my mistake in light of the sacrifices made on a daily basis by many, particularly our students, in adjusting their lives to observe our health protocols."
#MORE: Jenkins closes his email to @NotreDame students, faculty and staff with this:

Says as we see community spread occur, that eventually leads to hospital beds filling up. Also leads to schools going virtual, parents staying home, businesses having fewer workers.

#THREAD: For those curious about why @NotreDame’s COVID dashboard yesterday and today didn’t include the 7 additional football positive tests, I asked ND VP Paul Browne. He replied: (1/)
“Test results from FB came back on Monday but not reconciled with our corona response unit, which manages the dashboard, in time for the Monday posting or Tuesday posting at noon. It’s not unusual for there to be a lag of a day between test results from the day before and...”(2/)
“... their posting on the dashboard the next day. In this case the leg was longer than normal, but ultimately football numbers are included in our dashboard, as our positives of Notre Dame students or employees were tested off campus.” (3/)

#NEW: @NotreDame President John Jenkins announces that the University *will* return to in-person classes and can return in stages to the levels of activity the campus had before moving online.

The moves will begin Sept. 2nd
#NEW: @NotreDame President John Jenkins strongly encourages students who are contacted for surveillance testing to respond. Also emphasizes the importance of wearing masks & social distancing.

Says after 2 weeks of online classes, the University is in a much stronger position.
