Ok. Jason Verrett thread starts now.

Side note: He had some heat on his feet. Lol Image
Also, wanted to briefly go over why I do threads and what I was looking for. My threads are typically longer because I post anything notable. Also, I do not know coverages.. I’m not in meetings.. so I’ll tell you what I think but can’t say for certain.
Alright.. 1st play. Receiver motioned down so it forced him to play off. Did a good job settling his feet and "taking the charge" as I like to call it. Now just keep the receiver in tight a little. Be a little stronger at the top. Not a bad rep. Not worried about getting ran by.
1st qtr flew by. 49ers mostly had the ball

Here's Verrett.. Opens up protecting the go but anticipating the stop. Some guys open and go with no anticipation of a stop. That's not good lol. Very good by Verrett here. Sticky
Plays press with more feet than hands. Good. Remember press is an alignment not a technique. Hips feet and eyes all work together here on the turn and run with Slayton. Got in phase lookin to play chest to chest.Very encouraging rep considering we didnt know if he could still run
Free play for NY... again though.. nice turn and run.. staying with receiver.. got in phase before getting his eyes back. Good!
Good route attacking leverage. I was encouraged by Verrett's fluid movements here. The confidence in his movements. All injury concerns went out the window when I saw that. Now where he can improve HERE.. At the top of the route he got his eyes back to the QB. That got him lost.
Again good patience. Ready to run but anticipating the stop route. Good stuff. So far consistent with it.

Also good rep by Johnson. A couple of good coverage reps on this drive after 2 bad. Didn't get in his own head. Good job staying square and flattening off the route.
Wanted to post this b/c again, showing good anticipation while still running with the vert. You see him kinda settle his feet. Good feel. If this stays consistent he we likely challenge everything thrown his way.
Was really impressed with this. Showed me his level of confidence in himself. Right before the half you can get away w/playing softer and keeping the play in front of you. Nope, He's still being aggressive and ready to jump a route. Anticipation. I'll use that a lot here
Good at the top of the route.. Good eyes.. squeeze squeeze squeeze.. play aggressive through the hands. Really good rep. Challenging everything. I like it. That's Slayton who I really like.
Screen. You have to react and shoot before that OL can get to you lol If you dont, its ugly. He shoots fast enough here.. great tackle. Great rep.
2man rep. Get in a position to trail and undercut the route. Maybe the only time I saw them run this coverage but that's pretty much text book. Some like to be more aggressive in 2 man at the LOS. I like just getting in a trail. Undercut route. Good rep.
Now here I'm not sure. I'm not in meetings. Looks like what Jets ran last week. Saw Ahkello peel off the vert.. Is Verret supposed to to see it sooner? I think that out is his responsibility.
Good job here. Still anticipating the stop. Receiver goes vert.. he collides and runs with him. Now, they may or may not call illegal contact lol depends on how the ref is feeling. All in all... good rep
Anticipation. You can see him settle his feet so he's not just running out of there. Good. And then before the receiver commits to the dig you can see him already starting inside. Good good good.
Holding here. I thought it was closer to illegal contact on the double move. Either way you'd rather hold and collide than let a receiver run free for 6 lol. Attack that upfield shoulder
TV copy
Those are the type of plays you'd probably be more frustrated with if he were getting beat. But he had an excellent game so he gets a pass there lol
Quarters? Not sure if he's reading 2 pushing upfield. Was a little late squeezing. Great job by Williams on the initial PBU.
For someone with his eyes to the QB his anticipation is great lol. That was the only place the ball could be thrown/caught. Receiver made a great toe tapping catch. This was really exciting to see.. I'll explain why below.
I watched Hokpins have 14 catches on 49ers. Most of which it was soft coverage with him catching passes and not being challenged at all. I get it's Hopkins but make him work for those 14 catches. This clearly wasn't Hopkins but challenge him. I love it
And regardless of who's out there I'm watching how Verrett's playing against. He's settling his feet and challenging everything. Settle feet, run the dig for the receiver. If its thrown he'd challenge/contest it.
Last clip. Nice turn and run.. get in phase. Nice work on the vert.
I went into watching this film wanting to see how much he trusted his body, movement skills, ability. I walked away more than impressed. If this were a random prospect you'd be really high on him. Looked like 1st round film
Was aggressive in coverage. Aggressive with his eyes. Confident in what he's feeling. I'll have to compare that to other 49ers cornerback film. I really already know how they play lol but just so that I have more of an honest assessment. All in all that was a really good outing
Now onto Philly. If Moseley and Ahkello are healthy, does Verrett start? Philly is banged up at receiver. I know who Ahkello and Moseley are. I would like to see more from Verrett. Can he continue challenging receivers? Even if he gives up more catches. What does it look like..

I’ve been up since 3:30am. Couldn’t sleep so of course my mind starts going crazy. Obviously about football because I’m obsessed. Specifically about QB’s and the draft since it’s a hot topic with my 49ers. So here we go.. thread time

#CrockTalk lol
So first I started thinking about just how impressed I’ve been with Zach Wilson. Saw Daniel Jeremiah say he has some Aaron Rodgers to him.. I was like ok I can see that. Then was like damn.. how high will he go? 2? 3? Top 8? Do you trade up for a guy? It’s a solid class..
And then I started thinking about teams in recent years that have traded up for QBs..

Rams moved up from 15 to 1 for Goff
Eagles from 12 to 8 to 2 for Wentz
Chiefs from 27 to 10 for Mahomes
Texans from 25 to 12 for Watson

(Clearly no QB is EVER out of reach if you want him)

Just my opinion/thoughts on Henry Ruggs coming out:

Ruggs is a SPEED GUY. Not just speed but he was taken at 12 before any other receiver b/c of his ELITE speed. Now.. I had him at WR6 and people thought I was crazy. But let me explain

#Thread
Ruggs has 2 bug time traits

1. Speed
2. Toughness. He’s tough af

When you are that speed guy and that’s your BEST trait..you have to learn how to use that as a threat on a down to down basis. So even if he’s running a slant or stop route give the elision of a vertical threat
Ruggs did not do that. When he played against GOOD corners in the SEC.. when you watch the film.. he was not using the threat of his speed consistently. From press corners in the SEC were way too comfortable. No way that should be playing dick to hip on 4.2 speed.

Carlton Davis work vs Michael Thomas

Thread starts now. Image
Davis vs Thomas press work

shadowing Thomas most of this game. From the 1st play in press. I'm big on challenging not only the receiver but yourself. Davis did a really good job all game with that. I think that last clip is the only catch Davis gave up in press vs Thomas
Off coverage work. I thought this was beautiful here. Utilizing the leverage step. Leverage step allows you to stay square while keeping your initial inside leverage with the receiver so the receiver cant cross face allowing the DB to break evenly in any direction or turn and run

Ok. Last but not least, my outlook on the San Francisco #49ers

A thread: Sponsored by CrockTime University
So I got this tweet from @fablee4 and i started thinking to myself “Self, what do the Packers have to do to beat the 49ers this season? 🤔” and then i expanded on that question to “Who will the 49ers be come playoff time? 🤔” Image
So i started off by looking at the 49ers as whole. Ok..let’s start with the defense... one that was ranked 1st or 2nd in defense last season.

Returning 10 out of 11 starters. Buckner being the key loss. Inserting a developing Kinlaw who maybe only be a 2 down guy right now

I have not studied Trevor Lawrence so you can take this with a grain of salt. But I definitely have somewhat of an opinion on him from watching a lot of Tee Higgins this past draft season..
I think Trevor Lawrence bursted onto the seen as a true freshman and it was like “OMG this kids amazing.. beat Bama in the Natty and can only get better from here”.. watching last years Higgins film i was more impressed with Lawrence as a runner than i was as a pure passer
Clearly the skillset/talent off a top pick but I thought he was very inconsistent as a passer. I don’t think he’s the Andrew Luck type prospect he’ll be hyped to be.
