Conley and rest of the team members are wearing masks for Walter Reed briefing.
"Since we spoke last, the president has continued to improve," Conley says. He says as with all illnesses, there are ups and downs over the course. He says the president experienced TWO drops in oxygen sats over course of his illness.
Conley no longer sounds like he's editing himself, as he did yesterday.
Dooley says potus has remained without fever since Friday morning. He's ambulatory and walking around the unit "without limitation or disability."
Continued monitoring of cardiac, kidney and liver functioning show normal results, Dooley says.
Garibaldi up now. Says POTUS has tolerated Remdesivr well. "Today he feels well," he says, saying plan is for POTUS to be up and about and that if things go well they can plan for a discharge as soon as tomorrow to White House.
Conley being asked about second oxygen drop. Said it happened Saturday, dropped to 93 percent, they watched it and it went back up.
Conley says he has to check if POTUS had second oxygen yesterday but if he did it would have been brief.
Conley says they're tracking possible damage to lungs. He said there's some "expected findings" but then briskly moves to another reporter and doesn't explain what that meant.
Conley insists Meadows was "misconstrued" yesterday. Conley says that they're performing lung testing on Trump and he's "maxing it out." "He's doing great." Trump is on a third medicine now.
Conley says when he was not disclosing the info yesterday he was trying to reflect an "upbeat" attitude and make sure not to "steer the course of the illness" in another direction. Meaning, he didn't want to rattle the president.

The president's advisers hope to show that he's beaten the virus and also that he understands it better than he did. First thing he did when he got to the White House was take his mask off. nytimes.com/2020/10/05/us/…
Amid polls that were already sinking after the debate but before Trump's diagnosis, Trump's aides hope he will get a sympathy bump and that he will be able to debate on Oct. 15. But the course of the virus with him is still unknown nytimes.com/2020/10/05/us/…
Some of the president’s allies are encouraging him to see getting better from the virus as in line with battles he’s faced - Mueller, with news coverage and with impeachment. The virus is not any of those things and is impacting millions around the globe. nytimes.com/2020/10/05/us/…

"Mr. Trump, who historically hates hospitals and anything related to illness, has been hankering to get released... and some aides expressed fear that he would pressure Dr. Conley into releasing him by claiming to feel better than he actually does." nytimes.com/2020/10/04/us/…
"The president has also been watching lots of television, even more than usual, and has been exasperated by coverage of Saturday’s calamitous handling of his medical information by Dr. Conley and Mr. Meadows..." nytimes.com/2020/10/04/us/…
"He was also angry that no one was on television defending him, as he often is when he cannot inject his own views into news media coverage, aides said. As a result, Rudolph W. Giuliani, his personal lawyer, was expected to appear on several TV shows..." nytimes.com/2020/10/04/us/…

Four pieces of information in that briefing: a) Trump's fever was "high" b) Trump's lung scans show "expected findings," unclear what that means but c) Trump is on a steroid the WHO recommends only for "severe and critical" COVID cases and d) Trump's oxygen lvls dropped again Sat
Conley says fever is gone now. He says president not on oxygen right now. The new information is important. Could they be reacting overly cautiously because he’s potus? Maybe but that steroid use in a 74 year old man w breathing probs is a flag and fever can be lowered w medicine
Also - this is a virus that bounces around in terms of good days and bad days till its conclusion, like other viruses, as Conley acknowledged. Unclear what factors they’re using for possible discharge.

Several people told of the effort said Bernie MARCUS and his top political hand, Steve HANTLER, supported the Green Party effort in 2016, a third-party candidacy which some Dems blame for Clinton's loss in key states nytimes.com/2020/09/22/us/…
Marcus and Hantler did not respond to repeated requests for comment on what took place in 2016 nytimes.com/2020/09/22/us/…

W @peterbakernyt, the White House has been quietly planning for days a short list to replace RGB, one that includes at least one woman, according to 3 ppl familiar with the discussions. Trump will roll out a name "sooner rather than later." nytimes.com/2020/09/18/us/…
Confirming earlier report on Twitter from @Santucci
Coney Barrett is likely to be on the list, in part because focus on her calmed some conservatives who didn't like the Kavanaugh choice. At the WH, advisers are saying they believe the campaign changes from here nytimes.com/2020/09/18/us/…

The president says he called Redfield to ask about two things Redfield says that the president didn’t like. The president says, since that phone call, that if Redfield is asked now he’d probably say he didn’t understand the question on masks.
Redfield said: "I might even go so far as to say that this face mask is more guaranteed to protect me against Covid than when I take a Covid vaccine...”
“... because the immunogenicity may be 70%. And if I don't get an immune response, the vaccine is not going to protect me. This face mask will.”
