Yesterday’s lying was necessary to prevent Trump from getting sicker, said the president’s doctor.
Watch for yourselves, starting at 0:20 - “didn’t want to give any information that might steer the course of illness in another direction.”
Was I the only person who heard Conley assert, with strange precision, that Trump’s oxygen levels never dropped into the “low 80s,” and instantly thought, “ah, so it was in the mid-low 80s then.”
Disturbing that there is a plausible above-board interpretation of what Conley said above, but to me it just looked like someone caught red-handed struggling to come up with an excuse.
Trump is the decisive figure here but worth remembering that the broader GOP strategy all along has been to try to optimize stimulus to juice the economy until after the election, then pull the plug if Biden won anyhow. They undershot, and it’s on them as much as Trump.
Maybe Republicans panic, or maybe some other force will intervene. But the real nightmare isn’t waiting 4 more months for the rescue America needs. It’s McConnell keeps the Senate and completes Trump’s revenge. Absolutely can’t let that happen.
The reason they are trying to cover up the number of people Trump infected with coronavirus is that it’s clearly a very large number, and that’s just counting the direct transmissions, not the people who will contract it turn.
So Trump’s physician will hold a press conference today, right?
I asked this for two reasons:
1) Because it’s the appropriate thing for the White House to do, and for journalists to demand;
2) Because Trump has spent years programmatically misleading Americans, and so tens of millions of people will be primed to disbelieve him now.
The simplest, best explanation is Trump made culture war out of reckless disregard for guidelines and got COVID. But he also, e.g., invented multiple fake personas to manipulate NY tabloids into printing fake news about him. Now he's losing an election and desperate for a reset.
Mnuchin here admitting that they’re back to the table for more corporate bailout money. Fine but the concessions must be steep and lasting enough to span administrations. The pileup of things Dems need to demand here has grown awfully large since HEROES passed.
If Trump is desperate to avoid blaring headlines about airline job losses right before the election (and that’s clearly all he cares about) the concessions should be extraordinary.
