Ok so I got to test drive the new electric Volkswagon ID.4 at the studio this week, and hear me out - while it's not the most thrilling thing in the world, this is exactly the type of thing we need to start seeing more of for electric vehicles to catch on/take over. (Thread)
So you know how at the end of the Porsche Taycan video I praised them for not taking the easy route and creating an electric version of something they already make? I'll stand by that for $150K...
BUT that's actually what regular people WANT to see in their first electric car. Familiarity. And the ID4 has that. It also has:
250 mile range
77kwH accessible battery
125Kw charging
Sub $40K starting price
Tesla is slowly working their way down in price, but nobody is mass producing a GOOD $25K electric YET.
Also I've noticed: For as much familiar stuff as this car has, there's still a few main things EVERY electric car will do different that the world will adjust to:
Regen: The ID.4 has a D gear that drives and coasts like a regular car, but a separate "R" mode that applies regenerative braking through the motors when you take your foot off the accelerator (It's hard to remember not to say "gas pedal")
This is always better for efficiency 👍🏾
Aero caps. They are always ugly. My god, they're ugly. But for efficiency's sake, they're gonna be come a thing. At least in the beginning. Teslas, Taycans and every efficient car I've seen makes some use of them. These here aren't bad.
Charging: The ID.4 supports 125Kw charging with the Electrify America network. 👍🏾 Same as the Taycan. Gonna need that network to continue to grow the same way Tesla's has, since people need the confidence that they can charge anywhere in a pinch just like gas.
Also don't charge like this Taycan is, parked across 2 spaces. I get it, it's a precious car, man. But charging etiquitte is real and this ain't it, chief 😭
Noises! Electric cars are basically silent, which actually makes them a little more dangerous in parking lots and slow roads when people can't hear you coming. So fake noise will be added to new electric cars at low speeds. Here's the ID.4 fake sound under 20mph
Ok that's it, thanks for coming to my TED talk. Electric cars are the future. More competition is better for all of us ⚡️⚡️⚡️

Ok so there are 2 very clear reactions to this "iPhone 12 won't come with a charger in the box" story and it's worth understanding BOTH sides because they can both be right:
Reaction #1: Is this a joke? $1000 for a phone and the most necessary accessory is sold separately? Has a phone ever shipped with no charger in the box? This is a new level of greed. Classic Apple, about to make a LOT of money creating a problem and selling the solution.
Reaction #2: Good. Less e-waste at scale. Almost everyone has a charger already anyway. If people want a fast/wireless charger, they can still get one.
Got to CES. Brought a camera (X1D II and their new 35-75 zoom that I’m pumped about). So this begins my thread of dope tech spotted at CES and my impressions of it!
Also yes there will be videos 🤓
LG set up a massive wall of OLED TVs with a video playing across all of them and all I can think is DAMN that must have taken forever to render
Samsung's 49" Odyssey G9 monitor looks insane from both the front and the back. But it is 5K, so if you're tryna dual monitor game without the bezel in the middle.....
So the “K” reveal story (thread) - It started as a joke years ago that I wouldn’t tell people my middle name because the K in MKBHD was the 1 private thing I had left. I jokingly started saying I’d reveal it at 10 million subscribers because clearly that would never happen
Eventually as the channel kept growing and picking up steam, people started digging that up and projecting when we’d reach 10 million and getting pumped for the reveal. People started guessing every name in the book. Whoa.
Fun fact: You can’t edit your own Wikipedia. So as people guessed, they’d edit my Wiki with their guess. To the point where Wiki would occasionally lock the page for vandalism… whoever was the last to edit was the answer Google Assistant/Siri would tell everyone for weeks 😅
Daaaaaaamn, I can now say I appear in the second-most disliked YouTube video of all time 😬
The “problem” with YouTube Rewind is pretty simple, actually - the delta between what creators/audiences expect and what YouTube wants to show has never been more clear.
Creators want YouTube Rewind to be a celebration of YouTubers and the biggest/best stuff on the platform that year.
YouTube wants Rewind to be a couple minutes they can show to advertisers and say “look at all the great stuff over here that you want to spend your dollars on!”
